How can we get ESEA LAN back?

Every season I see a super late thread talking about getting the LAN back. What do we need to do to get LAN back, and how do we get there? I know we've made a ton of changed to invite that makes it more welcoming to play and open's pretty cheap nowadays.

ESEA LAN's were far before my time, but I'd love to see them back whatever it takes.

also i recall being told in a recent season that if we got enough signups in open they'd bring it back, so we doubled signups and instead they cut down our prizepool so i'm not putting a ton of hope there.

We'd have to have a LOT more teams. I dunno if it'd be enough to have 6s posted on every billboard.

It didn't take them much resources to add TF2 to the CS ESEA LAN. But when ESEA signed with ESL to host their top division playoffs, there was no way ESL was gonna host a large scale TF2 tourney.

That being said I believe some of the middle ESEA divisions have a lower key LAN we could in theory get added to

It didn't take them much resources to add TF2 to the CS ESEA LAN. But when ESEA signed with ESL to host their top division playoffs, there was no way ESL was gonna host a large scale TF2 tourney.

That being said I believe some of the middle ESEA divisions have a lower key LAN we could in theory get added to

tri stated multiple times that if the volume of the teams increase overall then ESEA would really consider bringing back the LAN

I guess ill clarify by saying its about general player base not just about open signups, also doubling our team count in open is most definitely an exaggeration that did not happen lol and im talking about actual teams, not counting the teams that don't even play a game during the season. Everyone includes them in the team count but never realize half the amount of the original signups are dead by the end of season.

i remember asking tri or some other admin about bringing them back several seasons ago, and he gave me some like general number tf2 would have to meet. something like 200+ open teams, 50+im teams, and a full invite.

although it’s unlikely to happen, ESEA canabalizing UGC 6v6 to grow its numbers would be a great start towards getting the numbers that ESEA wants

That was after the league removed the league fee for open. So you only needed ESEA subscription to be able to play in the open league. I believe that season also had a crazy high turn over, about 20-30% of the open teams disbanded during the season.

Unfortunately, that bump didn't last, as only two seasons later the league lost about 40% of the player base from that peak and returned to its normal levels of ~60 teams total, which is where it's been for the last two seasons.

So while UGC definitely does take away some of the market who'd go into ESEA, because it's free, that wasn't the main issue in the drop off here. Since the players trying it out, were probably mostly players who were playing for free as well. Nor did these players jump ship to UGC. As UGC lost about 40% of its sixes player base over the last 4 seasons (same time frame.)

I think the question is, why didn't the players who could play for free in ESEA stay? Why did it only take two seasons to go back to where it started? -- Is it the format? Is it the league structure? Is it just that CSGO players don't have an interest in sixes? etc...

it wasn't profitable cause ESL is a european company, hence why ESEA is still doing all the work in NA. It is still 'possible' for one of the parties to start a LAN, but it entirely depends on how many people are playing the league/cup.

it wasn't profitable cause ESL is a european company, hence why ESEA is still doing all the work in NA. It is still 'possible' for one of the parties to start a LAN, but it entirely depends on how many people are playing the league/cup.

I'd say having 5,000 people sign up for a pug service, with it almost beating out csgo/dota2 on the same system, in the first month is pretty fucking successful for a brand new system. Even if there were small glitches, that didn't stop the numbers from being very good.

You can't get teenagers/young adults to commit to playing on the same team more then one season. This is an unrealistic and practically impossible criteria to fulfill. That's 30 consistently active teams in Open, 20 Intermediate teams, and 10 invite (That's 360 people all together). No one can quit their respective teams for 2-3 seasons.
There is no way you will get 360 people, between the ages of 15-28 to all agree to a long term commitment like that. We need to renegotiate the terms of tf2's return to ESEA LAN or give up entirely on the subject.
