Someone please explain to me why everyone uses this to edit frag videos instead of other editing programs.
Thanks!
Thanks!
It's pretty easy to get used to. I've done literally one clip on it and I managed to pick it up without any help. True, there is better editing software, but for most people it's good enough, plus, most tf2 movie editors are used to it. If it isn't broken, don't fix it, I guess.
Depends on who you are and what you want to do with your videos. I don't look for anything incredibly fancy when I make videos, so I use Vegas.
It's the simplest and easiest way to sync music and make simple transitions. The only reason to use a different editor is to get access to better effects, which don't make the difference for a video in most cases.
I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, its not that hard to pickup if you stop and learn a bit before you jump right in.
Yeah it's very simple to use. Also it's extremely versatile. I started in After Effects and found it's a more technical program, but it's not very good for all-around editing. For instance, syncing is needlessly difficult, whereas Velocity plugin in Vegas makes it really easy.
I would love to use Premiere/After Effects together over Sony Vegas but sadly my computer (graphics card/ram in particular) don't support all the newer features and as a result the workflow in Sony Vegas is much more bearable. I have to ram preview everything either way but it's faster in Vegas.
because the knowledge and complexity of a program is so insignificant to how good you can style and flow your videos.

After Effects is a compositing program, not a video editor.

wow, with a statement like that you must have some really good quality videos, care to show us?

Like saying "Wow, your cake is really good. You must have used a really good oven to cook it with."

bearodactyl you're saying that you use premier and cs6 as if vegas just isn't good enough to do what you need to do, when in reality, it probably is, therefore, im making sure and asking because if you are doing some very complicated video editing techniques that necessitate the use of cs6 then im wrong, so i was just asking, btw you're clearly on your period today so i'll let you simmer i guess.
Vegas = OpenCL acceleration for both Nvidia and AMD
Premier6 = Cuda for Nvidia, OpenCL for 2/3 MacOS AMD cards.
Really sucks for AMD users on Premier.

if vegas just isn't good enough to do what you need to do
You are putting words into my mouth. Premiere pro is faster and much easier to incorporate into my after effects workflow, both could work but premiere is much better for the job. It is a better program itself. Has nothing to do with what I'm actually doing with it. If I can have an option to use a better program, why not? Your argument makes no sense.
And Adobe actually released that they will be moving on from CUDA and using open cl in the future a little while ago. If you have amd than vegas with opencl is going to definitely be better than premiere with software only

This so much. I'm having to pick up an Nvidia card and running a hybrid system just so After Effects doesn't take hours rendering.
As for the OP, I use Vegas because it was just what a friend recommended. The only thing keeping me from switching to Premier is the lack of hardware acceleration.

FCP and Premiere are pretty solid depending on what you are editing.
Vegas is a bit simpler, less computer intensive, and also cheaper (i think).

Thanks everyone! I was just wondering because I have both Premiere and After Effects CS5 and Final Cut Pro and can use all of them. I noticed that when i started editing frag videos people told me to use Vegas. I shall stay with Adobe
I think its mainly because Vegas is easy to use and get, making it the prime choice. I happen to be lucky and have access to the CS5 tools, so I use those.
