we play comp with so many plugins why not just make one for this ^
110/120 max fov is practically standard in any new fps these days
im sick of coming back to this game and having my fov so squished compared to the other games im playing

I've seen some community servers that can let you increase it to like 180 before it gets bugged beyond belief, its actually pretty sick looking but it kinda takes some getting used to
ive played this game for 7 years and im still shit dont ruin my muscle memory + fps even more

csgo players play on 90 fov, most even stretched res to reduce the perceived fov even more
i would go out to say that most players who cross over to a AAA titles would prefer to match fov_desired 90 to retain muscle memory/comfort

would give a slight advantage to anyone with a good enough pc to maintain consistent fps during midfights with higher than 90 fov. would also make checking for stickies a little easier i think. idk probably a negligible effect overall.

imagine where your head must be at to quit a AAA game for team fortress two

Valorant and Overwatch both have a lower max fov than tf2, idk where the idea that 110/120 is standard is coming from.

you would get the same fps drops at mid I don't really understand this argument
however, i guess the argument about stickies and probably being able to see soldiers high bomb a lot easier around chokes could be a problem I suppose... but also like why not??
we shouldn't really be comparing this game play to tactical shooters as well...
i find it hard to believe you gamers keep using 90 fov or less to other games that provide higher options lol. (I typically use between 97and 107 fov for most of my games) it'll make the game a lot more fun i'm just saying also the plugin could be as high as like 100 and that'll be significantly better.

Apex/warzone both allow 110 I’m pretty sure. Should allow it, if it makes you nauseous or whatever just opt out.
TF2's 90 fov is actually 106 if you're using 16:9. Probably more useful to use this number for comparisons with more modern games where that resolution is expected.
maybe other games do it the same way, in which case this would be a moot point, but tf2 actually allows fov up to about 108.43° (even with sv_restrict_aspect_ratio_fov) depending on your aspect ratio. if you're playing on 16:9, fov_desired 90 is giving you an fov of around 106.26°

why are you being so dishonest it is actually insane, Messiah is bringing up that point not to suggest there will be a flood of new players who come because we unlock FOV, but instead to suggest that TF2s cap of 90 (106) is outdated and that games retain balance with wider FOV values.

I thought tf2's "90" fov wasn't actually equivalent to 90. Like when you're on 4:3 it is actually 90 but on different aspect ratios the effective fov was like 103 or something like that
oh lmao

I should read the whole thread before I contribute

But it's all pointless in the grand scheme of things.
A lot of players are against changes like these simply because it alienates non-comp players and raises the barrier to entry-- especially something as fundamental as your fov.
b4nny, for example is a big critic of refresh.tf and their projects of "updating" maps by adding and removing insignificant details that do more harm than good. If you don't think this will be an issue, just look at the dodgeball tf2 scene; in order to be able to compete even a little bit you HAVE to use 130+ fov and it's hard to transition into it if you've never played that way before.
106 horizontal degrees has been good enough for more than a decade now, why change it now?

valorant 103
overwatch 103
csgo 106 ofc
siege 90 i think but definitely not above 110
apex 110
wz 120 (no one actually plays 120 + its on big open maps)
halo infinite 120 (no way people play halo at 120)
afps usually unlimited or up to 140 but like every top guy plays 105-113

I can't find a video, but I remember seeing a video here about being able to wall hack with a super high fov. This was like 10 years ago so I'm not sure if it's been patched or not.
bring aerowalk into mge, pure air strafing and i'm in

yup, you could set a bind_toggle and use it on thin walls to see through them.. the most common one from back when you could raise fov was shithouse on blands mid.
