Good evening.
I would like to address this thread to the Recharge Gaming League officials. I would love to inform you that nobody who played the playoffs for Season 7 of Traditional Sixes (as you call it) has recieved their prize money, which means we are a mere 4 days away from the 6 month anniversary of the grand finals of such a season.
You can view it here as definitive proof that what I say is fact.
Not entirely sure what the holdup is, but after speaking to an unprecedented 5 admins over the course of the past 6 months -- 2 of whom removed me shortly after my inquiry -- a modicum of insight into this matter would be greatly appreciated.
For resolution of such a matter, my paypal can be found here.
Best Regards,
Charis

can confirm my team never got paid for this season either. sucks because the prize money is almost exactly the same as the cost for lan registration and i'm pretty sure everyone who is going to lan and came top 4 that season was going to use it to pay the reg

Would honestly hope that they'd give prize money by the time fees are due next season.

the lack of transparency in rgl's financials as well as a lack of accountability among its leadership is pretty concerning. where is the prize money? who handles and has access to it? also at a higher level, how is the money being spent regarding operational costs/reinvestment into the league itself, and who gets to decide how much to spend and what to spend it on? the community deserves some answers from the league

Organize a boycott of the upcoming season. Nobody pay league fees until past season winners have been paid.
My guess is action will take place quickly.

sigafoo apparently is the only person that distributes the money, the rest of the admins just collect emails and send them to him

My understanding of the situation is that there is work being done on new payment system on the site, and the payments are delayed because of that. I'm not sure that there is an ETA on when that would be done.

Here's an article detailing RGL finances: https://rgl.gg/Public/Articles/Default.aspx?a=1557&r=40
Granted this was from August of last year, but nothing has fundamentally changed since then, so the general monetary distribution is the same for pretty much every season since then.
mmrarkte
This is correct.
Also worth noting that this isn't like an "official" response, I'm not actually part of the admin team anymore, but I figured I had a little bit of insight so I would post something.

not sure why a new payment system on the site is necessary to distribute money to team leaders using paypal

From what I know, it's a mix of making it easier to actually distribute winnings in the future, and for tax purposes, the specifics of which I don't really know.

Sigafoo handles everything with prize money. We collect paypals, and he sends out payouts. Dave2 already linked the post detailing everything in regards to how much is collected, and where it all goes. The decisions are largely made by the HAs and Sigafoo himself, but as you can see only $300 goes towards site costs and less than $200 goes towards newbie mixes. The other part that doesn't get returned directly to the players via payouts goes to paypal's transactional fees. I really recommend reading the article if you haven't already, as it is incredibly thorough as to where the money goes.
Charis messaged me a few times regarding payouts, and if I recall correctly (I don't have the dms so I might be misremembering), but part of the reason there was a delay with your team was because we were having issues with the original paypal account your team provided. When we did get a paypal, I forwarded it to exa/sigafoo, however by then we were reramping the payout system.
I do agree transparency hasn't been the strongest with this particular instance, however I do think overall finances are rather transparent. We can likely try to release more indepth financial reports for the next few seasons, however those do take time to write up.
As for accountability among leadership, any more specifics/insight you could provide would be much appreciated. We're not perfect, and working as a group of volunteers often does mean things slip through the cracks, however we know this and are always looking to improve.

so we will be paid once RGL is done remaking their payment system? how long is that going to take? if the publicly announced developments of the past are anything to really go off of like what pete said, it's going to be a long while before we see any of it.
also thanks to this anonymous donator https://i.imgur.com/4mAKPSX.png for contributing to the Official Season 7 prize pool.

Next time, just say the first sentence of your post and leave all the rest out because that post was 1 big bag of excuses and misdirection to the actual issue.
Frankly, your post was a lot of really nice words to try and explain how you are not paying people. "Transparency" is appreciated for telling us where all the money is going and it is a great thing. However, when I hit the lottery I couldn't give 2 shits where my state is using the funds from all the losers who paid for tickets that month. I just want my money.
Since you give out such hard deadlines every season for us to pay by a certain date, can we use the same excuses you just gave to delay our league fee payments? I can make a few excel spreadsheets showing my payouts and bills along with income to validate everything and be "transparent". At the end of the day, you will still demand my payment by the May 22nd deadline.

Also just a little info on this, it has to do with how paypal interacts with mandatory tax reporting to the IRS.
https://newsroom.paypal-corp.com/2021-11-04-New-US-Tax-Reporting-Requirements-Your-Questions-Answered
Paypal went from required reporting of 20k+ to $600 dollars. So if we send the money to a leader, the leader will have a 1099-K of the winnings, whereas before it was manual reporting process. Keep in mind that while people won't get $600 for just one season, it's very possible for team leaders to get $600 over one year.

not team leaders' problem that RGL has another coming soon™ development. payment should've been sent to them in an efficient way without any delay.
Also, fun little exercise since nobody has gotten money from season 7 is to calculate how much money RGL has stolen from teams by withholding prize money due to inflation!
Froyotech: $53.24
Witness Gaming: $42.14
Like A G6: $31.05
MyAnimeList BLACK: $24.40
GlobalClan Ice: $17.75
GlobalClan Fire: $17.75
Estrogen Took My Homie: $17.75
GlobalClan Panda: $17.75
Total amount of money stolen: $221.83

I dm'd and asked exa:
As of Jan 1st 2022 Paypal and Venmo will be required to provide users with a 1099-K form if they receive $600 or more over a tax year. RGL wants to revamp their payout system to automate sending out money on an individual basis instead of all to team leaders to distribute to their players. This would greatly decrease the odds the average player would need to fill out a 1099-K form. Sigafoo will deliver the payouts through the traditional way this weekend if he can't finish the new system.

i get where they're coming from, but a 1099k is not a big deal. rgl players fall into two categories:
-young enough that rgl winnings will not cause them to reach the threshold where they pay taxes
-old enough that they know how to add extra income to their taxes
