Advanced Top 10 - Week 7 Matches Complete
Very few entries for this week but that is to be expected for weeks 7 & 8 when most matches are top teams vs bottom teams and quick rolls.

it hasn't been picked in invite either

So why not just have the same map pool throughout the league?

I think bringing back other maps into the pool such as reckoner, propaganda, villa etc would be a good option for pickbans at a high level rather than badlands. Only basing this off of the ss of no one picking badlands.
I get that it's experimental though, good to take those results for later seasons of pickbans in advanced and invite

i feel like if u replace badlands with gravelpit or something non zoomer its just gonna get banned. zoomers rather ban a map than change pug culture to learn how to play it. or scrim a map nobody else plays for 2 months so they can get good at it

our team wanted to play badlands this season
only 4 teams haven't banned it against us so far
all 4 teams that didn't ban it were home teams that picked other maps
update: 5 teams in 15 non-bye matches didn't ban badlands, all of them picked other maps rip the badlands dream

the pick ban system encourages just not playing any new map that gets added since you get 3 bans, and most people are somewhat comfortable on every 5cp pug map and just ban koth/badlands/granary

Change the way the pick/ban system works for regular season only (not playoffs) to force more diversity in the maps played.
Only have 3 map options in the pick/ban for every match. Home gets 1 ban, visitor gets 1 ban and the 3rd map is played. This way the league can rotate the maps week by week and still give the teams some flexibility on choices.
Example:
Week1 - Pick/Ban Maps are -- Metalworks, Gully, Granary
Week2 - Pick/Ban Maps are -- Snake, Sunshine, Process
Week3 - Pick/Ban Maps are -- Viaduct, Clearcut, Bagel
Week4 - Pick/Ban Maps are -- Propaganda, Reckoner, Badlands
etc, etc
If the league can agree on a larger map pool you can easily have the right amount of maps for an 8 week rotation, meaning you can evenly space the maps out for the entire season.

map aweek is interesting but its dumb because it can change the outcome of a match just because of what week it was played on. if the people wnat to play snakewater every week let them play snakewater. if you want dont want to play pug maps just use all your bans on them

i raise you this:

step 2: play match

how has this not been figured out
map a week actually forces teams to actually learn new maps and not just play the same 3 maps people have been playing for the past decade, and it promotes people actually pointing out problems to the map dev so they can fix it for the next version. it rewards teams for putting the work into learning new stuff instead of just going into matches in autopilot mode doing the same rollout and bombs for the 8000th time
unironically remove some of the more played maps like process and snake to add some spice to a season if pick/ban is here to stay or go with something similar to what spacecadet/grapejuice said above even if it still means some maps will still get minuscule playtime

i think the big issue with badlands not being played is that the badlands enjoyers are pretty much gerrymandered across different teams such that perhaps one team has 2 badlands enjoyers at the most - resulting in at least 8/12 players in any server being indifferent/against playing badlands - as opposed to maybe 1 player on every team hating process, hating gullywash, hating snakewater, etc, resulting in these players just having to suck it up.
basically even if 10-20% of people want to/would be fine with playing badlands, when 80+% say "bad map" or "ehhh i dont know how to play it yet" then it just ends up not being played.
edit: i exclusively say "badlands" but i guess it can be extended to granary since it also has a very low amount of playtime this season.

Nothing more painful than scrimming the same map for 10 hours a week. Plus I've found teams are infinitely more likely to play 4 scrims if the map changes, if people know that after the 3rd time losing on metalworks they're gonna get to go for yet another round of losing on metalworks they'll just stop scrimming

trust me i am well aware of how awful it is to like play 4+ straight games of mworks or viaduct or whatever but is it that much better if there is a 70% chance of playing either process snake or gully in ur match, instead of being forced to play sunshine for 4-5 days straight now you're forced to play the same 3 with the curveball pick of some other map every blue moon through the entire season, hooray!
what's the point of practicing bagel or propaganda if you're just gonna do the same al-qaeda bomb in the match
something something the illusion of free choice something something

promotes people actually pointing out problems to the map dev so they can fix it for the next version.
This would be a lot smarter if a lot of the devs for these maps were active. Hard to cope that the map will get better if you keep playing it when the reckoner/sunshine dev has peaced out, with their final wish being no updated versions and we the community, like good little chimps, have not updated either map.
What's the point of playing a map to give feedback when no one will recieve it? I for one would prefer playing maps I want to play more than playing maps I don't like. Removing popular maps in favour of these maps will just make seasons a lot more mickey mouse, cuz a lot of people won't care or won't play. People just wanna chill with their friends after work most of the time, not develop a scene with no intent on developing (at least not in this way)

no it’s not really. I used the word “gerrymander” in the first sentence for a reason. obviously teams aren’t manipulated into being like this but the analogy is still there.

sunshine, metalworks, viaduct, and bagel are all fairly popular and still have less than 10% of the playtime of all matches. my argument is that badlands could achieve similar numbers of people weren’t simply afraid of playing it.
i.e. Newly formed team or didn’t play it in ESEA, eventually snowballs and it’s now later in the season and you just don’t feel like playing a new map. Playoff teams have their comfort maps, non-playoff teams just looking to finish out the season type of deal

gerrymandering sanctions boundaries to give more power to a minority opinion but youre just describing that the majority doesnt want to play it
ultimately it has little to do with how good or bad the maps are and everything with how unfamiliar they are. with pick ban teams can just decide to never play those maps and without pick ban teams only scrim week of and never again then complain for it to be removed next season
until people decide to learn non pug maps the discussion is going to be rehashed again and again with the map names swapped
