This kind of jazz in particular is called hard bop, a lot of it was recorded in the late 50's and 60's. I love really love the big band recordings of this tune too.

yes, very much so.
i've listened to a lot and tried to explore as many styles as i can. when it's all said and done, i always find my way back to bebop and hard bop.
these two songs are probably my favorite songs. sonny clark in particular is my favorite jazz pianist. he's got a great bluesy touch that i recognize immediately.
sonny clark - deep night
hank mobley - dig dis

"Trio Bobo" is a very cool jazz/fusion side project of some brilliant italian musicists.
Also, if you enjoy Weather Report, I recommend The Zawinul Syndicate, founded by Joe Zawinul himself

I really like this song moanin by Charles Mingus. I don't know anything about jazz but I like this song and want to find more music like this.
Mingus' style is inimitable. He has this very rough and rowdy sound that feels like he specialises in writing the soundtracks for drunken bar fights. I would absolutely recommend checking out his other works. Mingus Ah Um is a great collection of songs with his signature sound. Black Saint And The Sinner Lady is a cinematic and storytelling masterpiece and one of my all time favourite jazz records.
