If you are an adult I would recommend six feet under and mad men. Both shows feature a lot of small details that reward watching closely in quick succession. Additionally they are both 50 minute show without commercial and are both over 5 seasons old so there is a lot of time to be sunk.
If you don't like serialization, Star Trek The Next Generation is a great show with 7 season worth of episodes, and for the first few seasons each episode is self contained.

I was actually googling why TBBT is hated so much. Thanks to you guys I can't unhear the constant laughing and it is so fucking obnoxious. I haven't even noticed it before. I just started Season 2 and it fucking drives me crazy.

I've always found anime to be a good time sink because of the volume of episodes.
Cowboy Bebop and Initial D are probably my favourites.
QI and The Ricky Gervais Show are also decent non-fiction (or at least somewhat based in fact).

Peep show
Black Adder
Black Books
QI
Would I lie to you?
I really liked most of Breaking Bad (a few weak episodes towards the more recent seasons)
Game of Thrones is good.
I intend to make Spartacus better by just putting the show into vegas and editing out all of the sex scenes, and the scenes with cheesier gore. Would have been a great show.
Arrested development is also prolly the best
Firefly good too.
Willfred US and Aussie versions are pretty good.

This times a million. Not only the most well written (and funniest) show ever to air, but there's a new season coming out on netflix later this month.
Firefly
Game of Thrones
Archer is pretty entertaining
Community
Bob's Burgers
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Seinfeld

im assuming u dont want animes, so white collar (my friends dad is the director!) and skins (euro version).
The IT Crowd is excellent and was on Netflix last I checked.
If you like cartoons Archer is good right now, and Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law was taken off the air way too soon. (Voice acting by Stephen Colbert and Gary Cole, Lewis Black showed up a few times... So good.)

southland is a really good tv show and it's only in it's 5th (?) season, episodes are an hour long
i recommend southland to everyone because it is hands-down the best show i've watched in ages and the only one that's seriously caught my attention

The best TV series i saw was Twin Peaks. (Directed by David Lynch)
'' An idiosyncratic FBI Agent investigates the murder of a young woman in the even more idiosyncratic town of Twin Peaks. ''

Arrested Development is the best show ever created.
Dexter is also very good (and if you like shows along the lines of Breaking Bad, you'll love Dexter)

Other than the ones that have already been listed, I would watch these:
Louie
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Sons of Anarchy
Parks and Recreation
The Inbetweeners
Suits
The Boondocks
Prison Break
Archer
Weeds
There's a lot to choose from if you have Netflix. Everything up there but suits is available through netflix.

Misfits, Game of Thrones, Community, Parks and Recreation or Neon Genesis Evangelion because why not
Dexter. I don't think anyone mentioned it yet but it's pretty interesting.
Edit: Nevermind. Time to get my eyes checked and learn how to read.

Cowboy Bebop is so good it ascends above the "anime" descriptor and becomes god tier. I honestly think Cowboy Bebop is to anime what The Wire is to live-action tv series
kaiserRegYou can't go wrong with Dragonball and Dragonball Z
Dragonball Kai seems to be a very suitable replacement for dragonball z, they cut out all the useless filler/censoring and updated some of the voice acting/animation, as well as shortened each 20 episodes per fight to about like 4-5 episodes per fight. They haven't gotten to the the Buu saga yet though, so you may want to watch the regular series for that if you want
