These very lenient attitudes toward cheating are really confusing, I would've thought the old system of "you cheat, you're banned" would work just fine.

i think we should wait for phrakture to provide an alibi, excuse or an apology before we pass judgement but so far hes been a ghost (except when it comes to incest)

I'm not sure why people want phrakture to respond to this. There isn't really anything that can be said that will sway anyone in one direction or another.

It seems pretty clear that he used hacks in a few lobbies on an alt and he did a stupid amount of Elo farming with the alts

It's also pretty certain that he didn't use any hacks in matches or scrims, because A) he's pretty good, but he's not blowin up the world or anything (just badlands mid), and B) the hacks he likely used in lobbies as sniper would either be no help at all or actually detrimental to his play as demo.

So you have the camp of people who believe that all cheaters should be banned from competitive play regardless of the time and place of the infraction, which is fair, and you have the people who believe that if they don't use hacks in 'meaningful' situations, then what's the big fuss? That's also a fair stance.

Whatever phrakture says isn't gonna change the minds of either camp. I've never had the urge to hack in TF2 or any game (besides Diablo 2. Used maphacks in that nonstop) but I can see why the temptation would be there for some.

Personally, I want phrakture to respond in part because most of this is huge conjecture, but also because it would be nice to have a statement on record for him that said something like "I would never, ever hack in a real scrim or match" and an acknowledgement that the community will be scrutinizing his play exceptionally hard. You can say "well, of course he knows that", but you're not him. Your cognizance of "cheating in a scrim or match would be stupid and he shouldn't jeopardize his main account like that" isn't his cognizance of that.

What I would like to hear from him is something like "as you can see, I was caught using an aimbot while sniping in lobbies on an alt, I realize that was wrong, I would never do something like that again (at least on my main account)."

Personally, I think anyone who hacks in any situation has a huge lack of respect for the game. Whether or not we can tolerate that as TF2 continues to grow isn't for me to decide, but I don't find it to be out of the question that he would hack in a different situation, if he feels that way about the game.

Also, if I were to hack, I'd make an alt to test the hacks on before risking it on my main account. Given he has at least 5 alts, at least one of which is VAC banned...

Some of you are taking this way too seriously. He downloaded an aimbot to have a little bit of fun and some cheap laughs in a lobby, anyone can do it. It was immature to do but in the end he's not hurting anyone. Some of you are acting like he's some sort of hack developing mastermind that's gunna ruin esea with his client bypassing aimbots.

The tf.tv community is adamant.

I'm not understanding what would be considered "proof" here; between dodging every LAN (regardless of how for fun they are) and having an account that clearly used cheats (that was caught, doesn't mean the others are 100% legitimate), what else do you need to know before you think "yeah, this guy is kind of a scumbag and nobody should play with him."

Should we add on the fact that, while cheating in a lobby isn't the same as cheating in ESEA, it's cheating in an environment intended for newer players to learn the game and improve? What about the fact that this is an Invite player, someone who is supposed to be held to higher standards because of their elevated position?

Does none of that matter, then? What if his main account got VAC banned just for fooling around in lobbies? Does that mean it was all in good fun, and we shouldn't care?

Is he going to be considered a "clean" player until he finally goes to LAN and can't use his cheats? I'm just not seeing where the line is drawn.

The only way to discourage cheating is to make the risks exponentially greater than any potential rewards. That includes just a small hit of "fun." I just googled that and I'm still not quite sure what it is but just remember that winners don't do drugs okay?

Make sure people know that the community has a little thing called standards. They don't even have to be high standards, just don't be a tool and think that if someone is caught cheating we better make sure they had good time whilst doing it first.
