AG Supports CEVO in Expanded League

So I want people to know that I have spoken to CEVO admins in a long meeting earlier this morning. I want the TF2 community to know that in my opinion of speaking with CEVO and other TF2 players who have been in the game a long time, that CEVO is our best option. I will be volunteering my time directly with CEVO to help build up their TF2 division. I will also financially back up prize pots for the TF2 division. Here are the reasons for why I am looking for support from the community:

We want a change from ESEA and in my opinion a good solid change/choice would be CEVO.

CEVO used to be what ESEA is now. The only reason why people started to go over to ESEA was the prize pot increase and LAN. CEVO only had 7 teams register this season and they are still here!! No way would any other league be as committed to TF2 as that.

CEVO has the infrastructure that has already been tested and proven to work. It is from what I hear also very easy to use.

CEVO has owners that have an “open door policy” that anyone can speak to. That in my opinion something you may not find anywhere else.

CEVO has the same values as AG. They help the little guy to move up and not a top down organization.

CEVO is willing to give and work with the community on what they need/want. Please see below.

CEVO does not rely on leagues to make money. They have another section in the business section that does this. Therefore, the majority of the fees would go directly to the prize pot if we do a pay to play option. If we want the prize pot to grow we will need to pay fees and do a pay to play. ESEA did it and we took a huge hit in fee costs. No reason why we can’t give CEVO even half of what we paid for ESEA fees to get a hell of a lot more back. As a sponsor I will announce right now that I will pay any CEVO fees to cover team costs when a team is sponsored under AG.

CEVO is willing to look at lan options in the future. This may mean that they may attach themselves to an already existing lan. This means the lan’s will be in different parts of the country rather than one spot.

Someone also brought up the issue of the lack of divisions in CEVO. It would only make sense that CEVO carry over the divisions and layout that was brought about by the varying skill levels of the players. For example, an ESEA open team would be in the CEVO open division. This is up for discussion.

Concerns that need to be addressed and discussed are:
1. Stats with a possible live feed like ESEA
2. STV download from the match
3. Experienced casters and writers in the TF2 division. Discussion with CEVO about
bringing over committed volunteers who now the players and the game would be of a
great assistance.
4. When using the CEVO client we want to ensure that:
1) The client is not up and running when the client is not supposed to be enabled or working on your computer.
2) The client, when uninstalled, is 100% uninstalled from your computer.

I am asking the community for their support in going with the CEVO option. More discussions will happen and I want to hear from you. I am going to propose to CEVO that we have a community meeting so people can ask questions themselves to CEVO. CEVO wants us to come and have been waiting to get the TF2 community support. They have been more than patient with us and are willing and ready to welcome us with open arms. I have already been greeted by them in this fashion and I will support and work with CEVO to the best of my abilities.

In regards to any past history with CEVO. If anyone has any ‘concrete examples’, not a 3rd party account, of any incident that had a negative impact on them personally or their team while in CEVO, CEVO wants to know about it. CEVO wants to make things that happened in the past right. I encourage you to take your complaints directly to them rather than to the TF2 community to complain because for one, the issue won’t get resolved, and two, it only spreads ill will against an option and a business that is willing to make a great league that is for OUR community.

I had a huge response from people who support me and AG since this happened. People wanting me to lead and bring up a league ect. I have appreciated the faith and commitment you have always shown in me and in AG. I ask you all now to trust me in saying that CEVO is our best option to make a league that is what “WE WANT” and what “WE DESERVE”. I believe that in speaking with CEVO that they are wanting and willing to work with us. Please join the steam group to updates on meetings and the movement. Come to the next scheduled meeting to hear from CEVO yourself and have the ability to ask questions. You are the TF2 community and we can make a change for the better by doing it together.

This is great news. I wonder what enigma has to say, now that shifting away from ESEA is much more feasible.

EDIT: Particularly to this:

Well written Nahanni, it's extremely refreshing to see someone who has a foothold in our community push for change; perhaps it's the push we all need.

If AG wants to support CEVO I will do the same, we just need a general idea to back and this seems like our best option.

This is the kind of action our community has needed. If everyone who is done with ESEA starts to make plans to move to CEVO for this next season, we're gonna do just fine.

Open players right now pay 8 dollars in league fees plus 21 dollars in premium. 30 dollars per person for the league or a flat 180 per team shouldn't be outrageous.

I also liked someone's (seanbuds?) suggestion to maybe start out with a Humble Bundle type system for league fees. Everyone has to pay at least $1, but you can pay as much as you want. I dunno which would be better to use initially, but I thought it was a good idea.

I just want to quickly add my sentiment towards their admins. Throughout the season, my team had a few various issues (very minor, simple kinks being worked out which no longer will happen), and prostar (pipher) has been one of the most incredible and responsive admins I've ever had the pleasure to talk to.

If there's any way I can help support this, please let me know; given what they've already done and continue to do, giving back is something I'm more than willing to do.

It might even be smart of CEVO (which has run without fees until this point) to charge 50% of what ESEA players are used to paying, for the next 2 seasons, to attract new users/support.

I know there was someone in one of the other threads that said that they'd be willing to donate $6,000 to help out with a new league. If you see this, why not donate it to the prize-pot for CEVO (not sure how the money would be spread out amongst the divisions)?

If we had a mass move from ESEA to cevo I would personally provide 6 mouse pads to add to the prize pot.

I think iT and Watch This were signed up for this current season. It might not be relevant to next season, but at least they've showed SOME interest.

From what I've talked to, the only Main teams who would possibly care are those who are possibly being moved to invite next season. For invite players, IMO, this seems better than ESEA. Sure you don't have LAN, but given all the potential ways to increase the prize pool, they will likely be taking home more money.

I personally think that CEVO could have both an Open division (literally open to everyone and no charge) and a div with league fees (Higher ranked division). The reward for the league fee division winners could be money/prizes, and the Winner(s) (depending on interest and number of teams in the division) could get the reward of playing in the higher up division for free the following season. Just my 2 cents though.

The thing I would like most from CEVO is to see them pick up all the amazing content that the community has produced. We will never need another stat system different from sizzlingstats (or tf2logs), and tf.tv has superb coverage of the scene(s). To see CEVO adopt and support these projects would be incredibly encouraging.

CEVO isn't going to be perfect from day 1, but it sounds like they are committed to working with the community to form a league that IS gonna be what we want.

If the community supports CEVO by teams + players joining, as well as voicing our opinions on how to best structure + implement the league, it should go eXcellent.

Yea, the LAN (when it starts happening), will be held in conjunction with another major LAN. Meaning it will be better and not held in a hotel lobby.

pine_beetleThrowing an idea out there. If the community wants to try run a pay to play tournament/league I could put up $6000 USD cash. Winner takes all loser gets dick all. I think 25$ a person entry fee would be fair not going to budge on that, I'm still going to take a hit but eh made 8k last week so I'll be fine. I don't have time to manage the league or really organise any part of it. If you guys think you could do something with that add me on steam and/or pm me. I'm on vacation right now so don't expect a prompt response. I'm not interested in teaming up with ugc or etf2l that's completely out of the question at this point.
