If you want people to play in open, you should make rules to allow lower tier players in tf2 a chance to play in competition but still with a prize pot. Ugc is really the only place lower tier players can go and they dont have a prize pot, and they wont go to open because of main/invite capable players playing in open(Like S15). If you have a place where lower-tier teams we're matched up with people with the same amount of skill, players will join. People won't join if they know half the matches they play in will be rolls by people that should be playing in main/invite.

from an outside perspective its really sad to see that people are considering abandoning the only tf2 league in the world that offers a LAN event, and for what? an ideological stance against the organization's founder?
it seems to me that killing is completely open to improvements to how the league is run - or are people going to ignore this and continue to complain about esea's past mistakes (bitcoin) and founder (who has effectively nothing to do with the tf2 scene from what i have gathered)?

It's at 14-16 right now. They'll reach their minimum for sure - but it won't be "pretty". My guess will be a 25-35 team division by the end of it all. 8-8 should make the playoffs in such a scenario, BUT the field will probably be tougher by design.

You totally didn't read my post on the previous page. We've been asking for various changes for years that still haven't happened. The only reason things might be different this time around is because CEVO has been successful.
This is exactly why monopolies are bad in "the real world": when you don't have competition, you don't have a reason to improve; people don't have a choice. As soon as there's a seemingly better option available, people will flock to it.
Like I (and a lot of others) have been saying, supporting two leagues is a good thing. If CEVO having a bigger season than ESEA happens, all it means is that ESEA needs to step up their TF2 service to win people back.
