back in the day (way back) when I started, tr_airshot and the original ammomod (pre-MGE) helped me get better at airshots. Those kind of things can help you to a point, but there's really no substitution for just playing real games (pugs/scrims/matches). The more you play the better you will get.
just be like water and let ur crosshair ride the wave

Every day i would warm up with tr_rocketshooting, I recommend it because you get the feel for how to launch your target as well as how they react in air, then go and play a bunch of mge. I wouldn't suggest endiff however because there are very few scenarios in an actual game that can compare. Badlands spire and gullywash mid are what I always practiced on.

the only use i can think of for airshotting bots is to familiarize myself with lan ping when i'm at lan because i never play with less than 90 ping online.
generally speaking:
step 1. Pull out shotgun
Step 2. gleefully laugh as their jump gets all screwed up and they fall straight down
Step 3. Profit.

theoretically you want to wait until the person you are airshotting is at the peak of their jump, and then you decide where to shoot based on how they strafe
or try to predict the peak of their jump
or try to predict the peak of their jump
highfivetheoretically you want to wait until the person you are airshotting is at the peak of their jump, and then you decide where to shoot based on how they strafe
or you can just flick and hope
why should you wait until they've reached the peak of their jump?

prefiring is amazing
usually they strafe right into the rocket if ur open or below lol

you wait until the peak because a jumper is slowest at their peak
if i'm wrong someone correct me

A lot of the time it is a confidence thing. In terms of practice, I would play a few mins of tr_rocket_shooting2 a day/every few days. MGE/dm here and there, but I preferred the bots.
Another reason why I liked rocket_shooting was that it's a good tool for me to test new sensitivities.

Personally I prefer to hit them while they're on the upward part of the trajectory, because they've got less time to rain rockets down on me and kill me.

SoapY = Vot+(1/2)gt^2
Exactly. Calculate the trajectory by using kinematics, Physics works people.
Physics Works.

waiting until they hit the peak to fire is just dumb
just hit them as fast as you can, that way they have less time to spam rockets down at you

MGE a shit ton and, just assuming the worst, make sure your interp is 15.2
Facstabmake sure your interp is 15.2
I think you mean 0.0152

I never really understood interp, is it really a 'big deal' to have it at 0.0152?

Once you've played long enough you end up just understanding how fast/slow rockets move, how fast/slow the jumper is moving and then with that knowledge, where you should aim and shoot.
You can practice all you want and it will help, but there's no secret to it.
slopawI never really understood interp, is it really a 'big deal' to have it at 0.0152?
honestly, not really. it's not a "big deal", but it's more just about making sure your projectiles come out asap. 0.0152, if i remember correctly, is the lowest you can set it, so naturally you'll want it set to that for projectile classes. 0.033 is usually what people would use for hitscan, but i never really understood why you wouldn't just use 0.0152 too. but that's whatever. the difference isn't significant between the two values, so you can use either for soldier.
just don't set it ridiculously high for whatever reason or your rockets will be delayed. speaking of that though, i remember hearing that if you set it somehow in correlation with your ping, it helps when you have high ping. not sure if that's true or how it works, but if someone could touch up on that, then thank you.

play tr_rocketshooting and try to do 360s between bouncing the bot up and the airshot
mid air mod. tryhardbrigade still has an EU server.
tr_rocket_shooting2 and not hesitating
imo the latter really is the most important one, you should just trust yourself and go for the shot, not see the soldier, go "omg i can hit a middy" and then spaz and flick wildly, because you will most likely miss. If you wanna wait for them to be on a more predictable path sure that fine, or wait a second after you see them to make the midair easier/hit them when they're falling rather than flying that also works as long as you know what you wanna do, but hesitating or thinking of it as "im gonna hit this middy and its gonna be so cool"/"oh fuck i gotta hit this middy quick" is what causes most fuckups.

go for every air shot ever
but don't actually do this if you want to win

My advice would be definitely to practice a lot but I've found practicing on maps like plr_Hightower work the best for me because there is so much chaos and an almost unlimited supply of rocket jumpers to try and airshot. Have fun with it
