I was a leader of Angels of Death gaming clan. About a dozen of us got really bored with pubs in general, it just happened that TWL season 1 just started too.
First heard about Highlander 3 1/2 years ago, but didn't start playing competitive HL until a year and a half later.
Spy main to demo main.

I got fed up with all the heavies and engis in pubs, and since I had been playing lobbies and watching Salamancer's casts, I decided I had the skill and confidence necessary to play comp. That was 6 months ago.
Sice good ol' John Milter is bound to show up at some point, I might as well just tell you all now that this is my third season in UGC Steel Highlander, and my first season of Steel 6s. Gotta start somewhere.

Rang sniper for a iron scrim for a friend and I loved it so then I looked into competitive tf2 and got started.
I started out watching some videos on highlander. After that, I discovered lobbies and did them continuously, until I met Batcan and Boutros who offered me a tryout on their highlander team as demo. I made the team and had a blast with those guys. SHOUTOUT TO TILT!
I remember waking up on Sunday extra-extra-early to be fully alert for IFA's weekly highlander pugs every week. I used to pub almost 24/7 on IFA's 2fortdesert server (rip) and that was the first comp experience I got. I started to get more and more into the HL scene, and when I saw s12 lan I knew I wanted to play sixes.
I don't remember how I first found out comp TF2 was a thing, but I do remember watching the usual classic frag videos (Reptile/appe/Frozenshift). I saw the top10 plays that VinnyTheBoss did and noticed YouMustRecover in it (dying to Harbleu), who occasionally frequented the pub clan server I always played on. I started watching comp more (<3 Leogeo & Schetter) and really got into it when coL. was dominating the scene.
Then me and some guys from my pub clan decided to run some of our own PUGs. Went fairly well but only happened once. Then one of them knew Tragic and he got us into our first Lobbies. After that we made team for TWL. That was in 2010.
I didn't play in ESEA until S10, partly because of money, partly because of time (spent 8 months at university), and partly because I thought I wasn't good enough. Though eventually DrBadfish offered me a spot on a team he was making for S10 so I decided to go for it.
The end.
Edit: (Oh yeah one time Platinum and Davis were in the aforementioned pub server destroying everyone with the Direct Hit, which also helped motivate me to start)

disengageAugust of 09 I get asked by my friend sNoB to play in a highlander pug with Axl's tf2 regulars. Start playing in his 6v6 pug group. Then I moved on to play in CPpugs and found my first team there.
hey! I played with the Axl's tf2 regulars too! Joined the ETF2L Highlander league and lost to yz50's team in like week 5. Ironic how he eventually joined Axl tf2's UGC plat team.

this might have been a bit after i started playing lobbies, but i was surfing youtube looking for tf2 vids to watch and ran into this:

i immediately wanted to know how people could get together and have so much fun playing this game.

i was on the "competitive" team of my pub clan Gib$Ru$ where we got rolled every game practically, then after that died i met deth in a pub and he invited me to try out as roamer for kryptic gaming
I played TFC for years and years, really pumped for TF2's release.. It finally gets released and it was NOTHING like TFC. Still went to give it a go, played in the very beginning when there were just test pugs going on when that dr. team was alive raping everyone. I was going to play with rnc (random new clan) with technasty, ninjitsu, emperor, nightmare, and someone else. Then we threw around the idea of creating a team called money shot $s| with some other people (I think they actually did play a few seasons without me after I quit). I remember a TFC clan too called [NASTY] aka Dynasty with players like Dion, Wonka, Sploosh, Rent, Reptile, Reen. I quit playing soon after release due to real life stuff and came back years later and started in S9 as a newbie all over again. Good times!
Back in summer of 2011, I had some minecraft clan thing. One of the guys in it introduced me to tf2. Pubbed around for about a year, summer of 2012, made an iron (or steel if iron didn't exist) HL team with some friends from minecraft and random pubbers. We played like 2 matches and FFL the rest. I played spy a lot but I was bad so I played pyro on the team. Didn't do much after that until the same friend got me onto soldier. From there I found 6s through tf2lobby and did that until summer of 2013, when I got picked up for a team that died before the season even started. Then I found a team this past fall, and played until halfway through the season in UGC Steel, when half the team left. I've been pugging since then. So, even though I've been "playing comp" for almost 3 years now, I've never played a full season and I still suck.
thanks to waterhog for showing me tf2 and then comp tf2.

While pubbing, I kept destroying some soldier. He challenged me to MGE, not knowing what it was, I accepted, won and then was asked to scrim with some team

lies. i told chunkey to join my team then moved him to backup.
Was big into listening to podcasts when I was younger, so when I found a new interest the first thing I would do is try and find a podcast related to that topic. I found Control Point podcast, and they had a pug group which Sigma formed.
I played so much and ended up admining it by the end when it died... never mind that I live in New Zealand and was playing on servers in the US. Then I started looking locally, formed a team with a good friend, and the rest is history. The team I formed lasted 5 seasons, so that was cool.

That's some Cinderella shit right there.

used to play a mario kart map, accidentally clicked on mge, got addicted, invited to a team
After watching my first 6's game, I started playing badlands pub/lobbies/pickups etc.
Been playing Comp in other games since like 2007 maybe. I was playing this game called Battlefield Heroes when developers completely fucked it up and a bunch of our clan guys just quit, so did I and then I was looking for new game to play, so I found TF2, after few hundred hours of pubstomping I decided to try lobbies, slowly gathered few guys through there and finally made a squad for TF2 borrowing name from the same clan I played BFH with.
Played on a 5v5 team as pyro after I started maining it in TWL with Gypsy Davey and Tators and some other people on a team called E2N.
Kept pyroing while they went on to become really damn good 6s players or video editors. Experimented with pyroing in 6s pugs, mostly in the TF2F ones or so. I didn't really get anywhere. Come time for ETF2L highlander cup, I didn't participate because I was still trying this and because I was basically in love with the degreaser which was blacklisted (big mistake not doing that, but it helped me in the future with regards to familiarity with degreaser). I went on to play around a lot, get stupidly good at pyro (I wasn't good by today's standards, but back then no one was a good pyro period), and then word got to a guy named Jesus from CommFT via sNoB. Pyro MGE'd vs him while we talked about pyro in competitive, then he asked me to join his highlander team Magical Frolicking Unicorns. After that, went to Gun Runners in plat and became really well known as a hyperaggressive pyro main in like S5 of UGC.
