I'm throwing around the idea for a tournament, and I'd like to pick your brains a little bit.
Things I need:
Teams to commit. I'd like all 8 invite teams and the top 4 IM teams (Don't break up after season!)
Casters that can confirm they'd like to take part.
Servers for matches (most teams should have these yeah?)
When? Between the end of IM playoffs and ESEA LAN. So like.. mid June.
What I'm thinking:
3 Groups of 4. The top 3 invite teams will all be in separate groups.
Format: GSL Style. For those of you that don't know what this means, see below.
Group 1
Team 1
Team 2
Team 3
Team 4
Team 1 vs Team 2 - game 1
Team 3 vs Team 4 - game 2
Winners of game 1 and game 2 play in game 3 -> winner is out of group in 1st place
Losers of game 1 and 2 play in game 4
Loser of game 3 and game 4 play in game 5 -> winner is out of group in 2nd place
This minimizes the amount of games necessary while giving everybody a second chance.
The 6 teams that make it out of groups will play in a double elimination bracket afterwards.
I'd like this event to take place nightly for a week (ish). I'm thinking group stages played out from Monday-Thursday night (take friday off) and the double elimination stuff can start on Saturday and end with the finals on Sunday.
Prize pool: $2500
1st - $1200 (+6 Twitch shirts)
2nd - $600
3rd - $400
4th - $300
Would like thoughts. Pls. Once I figure out how to do all of this, we'll make a formal announcement and get everything squared away.

I prefer the full group format (its only 1 more game) but I understand your concerns that it might be too many games for a group phase

It's too much of a grind for casters and I'd like every game streamed. With 3 groups of 4, it's possible to have a tie in group stages with every team playing eachother once, which is something I want to avoid.
I'd like IM teams to get a shot, because I think the top couple IM teams could snag 3rd/4th realistically. They're winding down from their season, and having them play a metric ton of TF2 when they're already burned out seems like a bad idea.

What's the casting format for the group stages, will it be on one specific channel or will it be ESEA-esque where anybody can come in and cast one?

I'd imagine people will be casting on TFTV, but if people want to do community-style casts as well, I'm all for it. MORE. TF2.

Yes. Post-Apocalyptic aka pure-med justin-charge n targe demo tictak-pocket seagull-roamer memphisvon-backup soldier sezco/milo-scouts. Which might actually be interesting. They beat exertus on viaduct earlier, not sure how seriously the game was taken but still.

You might want to consider that a 6 team bracket after the group stages will lead to a lot of byes.
Either
You could either add a fourth group, or allow twitch voters to vote in two wildcard teams to round it out at 8.
