skeejWhen i was told about this i thought there would be a pick/ban system involved like in mobas (right? I never play/watch that stuff but i believe before the game both get turns at picking/banning certain heroes???)

Turns out this is just a pure, unadulterated, "allow everything" match? Thats not really interesting imo. Also, Valve could perfectly fine get behind a matchmaking system with item pick/bans i think...

The thing is we can't ban stock weapons to my knowledge, so it would be very easy to just ban a few weapons and play regular 6v6.

Would like to see a pick/ban system where we could ban stickies, or stock medigun for example.

My tryhard avice regarding a usable lineup :

  • Pocket soldier(any rocket launcher/reserve shooter/whip) OR pocket heavy (GRU/sandvich/stock minigun)
  • Standard demo (can change items on mid or on last holds)
  • Medic (xbow/quickfix/ubersaw)
  • engineer (pomson/short circuit/gunslinger) OR combat spy (enforcer/dead ringer)
  • Scout (either sandman/cleaver or mad milk/atomizer, any primary usable)
  • A roaming class. It can be anything, from a market gardener solly to a jarate sniper, a stock roamer, a second scout, a tomislav heavy, a revolver spy, anything. If it was me i'd run a revolver spy as well as the already described engineer.

You are correct, plugins are needed to disable them or change them into other weapons, whitelists can't disable stock weapons (you can block renamed or strange stock weapons though).

Don't forget how awesome the solemn vow is for intel either.

From the pool of unlocks I sort of know, the best loadouts for the cookie cutter classes (imo) are as follows (i wont attempt to know the actual names):

Scout: scatter, bonk, triple jump bat
Scout 2: super speed gun, cleaver, sandman
Pocket: liberty launcher, shotgun or the backpack that makes you take less damage, whip
Roamer: default or liberty launcher, gunboats or parachute, whip
Demo: stock, maybe switch the pipe launcher out for the loch n load
Medic: crossbow, quick-fix, solemn vow or vita saw

As an additional experiment, I'd be interested to see an exhibition restricting players to the 4 cookie cutter classes but unrestricting unlock use. That might better exemplify what would actually happen in "valves game" at the competitive level given that these 4 are still the most versatile/necessary in a comp situation. It might also alleviate the possibility that we see players playing the yolo classes just because it will in truth be the one time they can actually get away with doing so. Not that the off classes aren't part of the game, but just that the temptation to mess around with them might win over the experimental mission and purpose.

I'm not sue what the plan is for class limits, but I want to see 3 sandman scouts at a midfight. I think that + beggar's bazooka roamer would mean instant death for a few things.

Also someone should get a machina double kill.

Liberty Launcher is really bad now. It got nerfed a while ago and is even legal in ESEA right now.
Why would you not run BFB (speed gun) and/or Crit-a-cola at all times? They're both insane with current stats (i.e. stupid enough to be banned in HL).

Uh, the Liberty Launcher is terrible. I believe you're thinking of the old LL (3 rockets, 40% faster rockets) but it's been changed to basically a straight downgrade... (4 rockets, -25% damage penalty)
