if you could somehow take tf2, swap it with DotA without the design team noticing, remove the fantastic movement, and then put host_timescale 0.75 in console, and then pay valve ~$15 a month to keep playing it, thats what i feel like Overwatch will be like
do we know how much its going to cost? blizzard tends to make everything cost 60$ no matter what on release, which worries me for this game.
I don't think anyone can say the game won't be successful. Rather the better question is how much of the games success will come from good game design and how much will come from marketing. The stuff they showed at Blizzcon left me very unimpressed but I have a pretty cynical attitude for the most part so I can see how some people might have been wowed by it. Regardless I still signed up for the beta right away. Lets not forget the Brink fiasco where a new IP by a trusted developer that everyone claimed was going to kill TF2 (and most other FPS games) and become the new main game for everyone died a month after launch. But equally, as Bloodsire said, lets not forget how TF2 was just a kiddie game and no real FPS gamer would try to play it competitively. At this point so much is uncertain that there's not much point in making this thread.
the point of ultimates is that they're abilities with long cooldowns that have a huge impact on the game
saying that because every player has an ultimate it's impossible to use gamesense to know when the skill is back up is weird. in any coordinated team someone is going to call that someone used their ultimate and then either time it or have a rough idea when it's going to be back up.
like it's the same shit as dota rofl, you can't really say that having powerful abilities breaks the game and lowers the skill ceiling. that's like saying quad damage ruins ctf/tdm in quake because players have to play around it

Just a reminder that our beloved skill-skyscraper of a game shipped with random crits locked on.
I wouldn't say I'm hyped for it but I expect it to be a well made, polished game worth the money, so I'm definitely buying it. I don't really expect it to be like TF2 though
csgo, mobas, now an fps that functions like a moba
better off just dying with tf2
better off just dying with tf2
that's subjective
tf2 seems so unique to me. for some people there is just not going to be another game they enjoy, at least competitively

People who keep calling this a moba need to relax. There is no farming, there are no buildings to destroy. The devs have even said the "ulti's" are more like power meter's from fighting games.
Corsacsgo is actually good though
while i enjoy playing csgo i wouldnt say its better than either 1.6 or source, but its so different than tf2 its hardly possible to compare them

If there's one thing I observed and learned from Blizzard, it's to never expect too much or have standard expectations. Blizzard I feel has so much potential, and has the ability to apply it and make something great in many different ways, but they just won't do it. I seem them sort of like Valve, just without the real effort.
I think there is a good chance this is going to be one of those hyped up games that streamers play for a bit and stop playing after a week to a month. One example of this is Titanfall, many people were hyped for it, got it and streamed it, then it died out. But if it's Blizzard, I think Overwatch can definite outlast Titanfall and various other overhyped games for a while, but what they will do in Overwatch for the remainder of the game and what it has to offer is of course one of the biggest factors.

I've come to realized I'm pretty biased against Blizzard after SC2's shitty UMS system and D3. I expect nothing, but I won't be surprised if I'm disappointed again.
I expect people to latch on for at least 3 months, but don't be surprised if we end up with another Brink.

FanofAngelsJust depends if they pull a Hi-Rez. Was kinda sad seeing tribes die, and them just abandoning it and working on their moba money farm.
It's built off of the assets from Titan which blizzard has been working on years. This is their baby and I really doubt they'll abandon it.

It still hurts.
I'm still longing for a pubgame as good as T:A was.

I love Tribes but Hi-Rez has the clunkiest most piece of garbage engine on all of their games. Their entire model is to take good ideas for games and then run them into the ground.

Titanfall was and continues to be fun though, even if I'm the only one who thinks so...

Well its being made by Blizzard, so expect some bullshit on launch day and the following weeks.

I wasn't comparing it to tf2 at all. I just don't think it's proper to say "csgo, mobas, now an fps that functions like a moba" when csgo is nothing like mobas and is actually good, which is obviously very subjective. I don't think anybody minds csgo being a large competitive game, while a lot of people don't like how mobas are huge in the competitive industry.

those people are just salty that their favourite game isnt as big.
LF people with good aim to win $$$ in expected overwatch tourney
LunacideIt's built off of the assets from Titan which blizzard has been working on years. This is their baby and I really doubt they'll abandon it.
The baby is already dead. Overwatch is just a rather cynical attempt by Blizzard to recycle assets from a canceled project into gameplay copy pasted from other franchises in order to recoup some of its losses.
Blizzard still has major brand recognition and they already have an established platform to promote their games (Blizzcon). So from their perspective it makes sense to throw together this game based off what is currently popular? Whatever they put out will probably will probably sell pretty well as long as its half decent. That really is what they're aiming for, something that is just good enough to make money. It seems pretty clear to me that this isn't their baby, or a project they feel passionately about (most, if not all of the developers who worked on Titan were reassigned to other projects about a year before the game was canceled). If they really cared why would they do such a rush job and why would't they spend more time on creating original gameplay design? I think the decision to make this game was a purely a business one and Blizzard(-Activision) has already shown many times that they care about business much more than they care about anything else.
Of course all this doesn't necessarily mean the game won't be good, but since Blizzard doesn't really care about making it good it probably won't be.
Personally, I didn't see anything in their little gameplay video that seemed interesting, but that is just my opinion. Maybe you guys want to play as the huntsman sniper or the guy who builds sentry guns or the other guy who builds sentry guns or the guy who turns into a wrangled sentry gun or the medic with the ez mode resurrection mechanic instead of uber (medic is boring! lets make it easier). Maybe you want to play as the guy where you can just press a button and the game will aim and shoot for you. Possibly you just want to try out the new and exciting gamemodes of "payload" and "point capture".
I guess the real reason why people are interested in this game is because they believe there will be a competitive scene supported by Blizzard and that the similarities it has with TF2 will make the transition easy (Overwatch is even 6v6 apparently) . I'm not gonna say there won't happen, but Blizzard doesn't exactly have the best track record supporting esports (ironically Valve does a much, much better job). Starcraft used to be practically a religion. Blizzard had a viable esport dumped into their laps and they ran it into the ground. They pretty much ignored Dota until they realized other companies were making big money with the concept and then proceeded to make a shitty LoL knockoff that no one gives a shit about.
I think the optimism people seem to have for this game is just a massive amount of wishful thinking and I think people are going to be pretty disappointed with this game just like they were for Brink and Super Monday Night Combat (which ironically seems similar to overwatch in some ways)

mostly me just complaining about other big games that I wish wouldnt be so popular. I mind csgo being a large competitive game. Maybe that's just me
It does get annoying when I have 24 mumbles favorited that only contain tf2 players and 95% of the time every single person in every single mumble is either playing csgo or not there.
It is all opinion but I guess mine is a very unpopular one.
