Hey when this game first came out i understood that unlocking additional characters was a very grindy process. Have the patched this at all or is this no longer a thing somehow? Just curious.

It's just not a $60 game and I don't know why they're trying to sell it as such. $20 seems much more reasonable. Maybe even f2p...

mm its actually not that grindy. its like the equivalent to the old way of unlocking class updates in tf2 where they were achievement based. they are pretty quick, for example to unlock the second medic you only need to play around 3-4 games as the first medic etc but games can last anywhere from like 5-20 minutes which is pretty nice.

playerbase has been screwed over to some extent, at least the people who preordered, but they are doing weekly challenges for skins, the devs do respond to questions, and the biggest issue is the game has deals with microsoft which ruined the pc release which is a shame since turtle rock makes pretty good games
hoolii got unbearable input lag during the beta, is that fixed?
I have yet to notice any input lag, the game plays very smooth, shots register, etc.

This is a result of 2k publishing, they do the same shit with borderlands, I'm not sure if anyone remembers when borderlands came out and they focused on xbox and the game was a shitty port. This game isn't a shitty port, it's just the PC version is missing some needed TLC as a result of the menus and stuff being aimed at the console version. I have faith in them fixing that shit though.
If the game was f2p ( which i agree it shoudlve been), nobody wouldve paid for it on xbox or ps4 which i think was a problem for 2k since i think microsoft made a deal with them for exclusive content and other bullshit.

Blew $100 on it.
It took them 1 month to fix a bug where your mouse cursor would be stuck on the screen at the start of games, and the only way you could get rid of it is disabling Steam overlay. You could also mash SHIFT+TAB over and over again at the start of the game (while questioning how this was added between beta and release...) and that would fix it most of the time .
2K definitely fucked up big time with their PR, but I can't take all the blame away from Turtle Rock. The above bug should have been fixed in a hotfix the week of release, not in a small patch that hardly fixed any of the big problems with the game (matchmaking, overpowered Wraith, fly-like-an-eagle mode)... and somehow, DLC is going to bring players in?
Evolve kind of broke my heart. It's still a good game, but every time I try to play it, I'm reminded of the obvious efforts of 2K to milk their customers for all their worth, and the (still) slow response from Turtle Rock to much needed balancing changes and a matchmaking fix. Then again, they have a quota from 2K to get this DLC out soon, so they can't be bothered with that.

I like this game a lot. If I had more friends who played i would play more. I didn't feel like the character unlocks were grindy at all.
I don't like playing alone in these types of games.
So buy it!
If you need a 4th/5th (MEDIC MAIN LOL) hit me up.

This sounds like it will follow the same path as titanfall's release. New franchise is overpriced on release so strong playerbase cannot develop (hard to get friends on board @ $60...as this thread is a perfect example). The high price actually creates some resentment from early adopters as it has to quickly fall...they become a lot more critical of the product due to the price they paid and so in addition to the monetary barrier they have less positive recommendations of the game itself to their friends...
But business majors be gettin dem short term gainzzzzz
When you're trying to create a new franchise you'd think you'd want to take a slightly longer term view than extracting as much wealth as possible with your new product up front. It's going to hurt them in the long run just like it hurt titanfall's debut. They'll probably be patting eachother on the back in the short term but IMO they ultimately leave more $$ on the table AND piss off their consumers. You lose a lot of potential lifetime customers that way..

I love evolve. Even pre patch it was great. They dropped the major balancing patch yesterday for PC. I've got a crew of maybe 7-8 friends that all play, Flame if you want to add me feel free.

Really good game. Most original and fun multiplayer title in years. For some reason people are no longer willing to pay 60 bucks for a multiplayer-only game even though this is a title with a ton of replay value. I've gotten 100 hours out of it already so even if they take down the servers tomorrow it was worth $60 easily.
It has issues for sure, the DLC structure sucks and the matchmaking can be tiresome if you try to solo queue (getting forced into a role you don't want to play). Playing it with friends is one of the best gaming experiences I've had in a long time tho.

The explosion of popular F2P games and also smaller but cheaper multiplayer games being available in general. Also I rarely ever pay $60 for games these days. Most of them really aren't worth it imo when I know I'm just going to go back to something like Dota where the only money I ever spend is on extra non gameplay interfering shit that I want to spend money on.
Evolve, much like Titanfall, just seems like a shallow game with not a lot going for it while asking for $60 while I could instead play a free or cheaper multiplayer game that has the same amount or more content and replay value.

It is a lot of chill fun, a ton of replay value, over-priced, but there are worse ways to spend $60. If you have the money, I say it is worth it.

Super fun, one of those games that puts you inside it's universe with it's atmosphere. Just my 2 cents.

For me, I don't pick the MOST EFFICIENT GAME and then play nothing but that. I look at any gameplay experience and if it is fun and worth the price then I'll play it. Just because a handful of developers are able to use the revenue from crazy rich people who pay hundreds of dollars for cosmetics to subsidize my gameplay and make it free doesn't mean I think that every developer is able to do that, and I'm never going to play another game that isn't free again.
As far as the game being "shallow", to a degree I guess this is a subjective thing but I wouldn't call 12 characters over 4 completely different class archetypes being played in asymmetrical pvp shallow. Look at TF2 - years later people are still playing 6v6 badlands with 1 med 1 demo 2 soldiers 2 scouts and having fun. When you're playing a 3d shooter the game is so fluid and dynamic that the emergent gameplay itself has a lot of variety and you don't need a ton of variety in the ruleset to keep things interesting. Or there's the less analogous but classic example of chess with its 6 different pieces.
The thing that makes Evolve worth paying for in my mind is that it is innovative. Titanfall was basically COD with parkour and mechs. The setting was new and interesting for a bit but the gameplay was very derivative. Evolve is not even close to anything I've played before.

Did anyone actually play Titanfall for the setting though? I don't see why story/setting in a multiplayer shooter could ever be a draw.
How does it run on people's systems, and are there any good FPS configs out there? My computer seems to be really hit or miss with what it can run, and I don't want to risk $60 on something that doesn't run well.

well, not really.
don't get me wrong, because i'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it's basically a remake of Giants: Citizen Kabuto.
the multiplayer concept was the same, but objectives (and some elements) were different.
there could only be one giant. he starts at level 1. he could go up to lvl 3 by eating animals in the level.
there were 2 other races that could kill the animals to prevent the giant from leveling up.
one of those races had jetpacks, and a bunch of different guns to use.
the other race had spells similar to some utilities found in evolve (a dome that slows time rather than encapsulate, for example).
one of the the bigger differences (in multiplayer) is that these other 2 races were hostile to eachother, not only the giant.
anyway; evolve is basically the 2015 version of that game.
upgraded gameplay, upgraded graphics, upgraded balance, upgraded netcode, etc etc.
but yeah:
i think evolve is a very cool game. it was about time there was a good FPS game that offers something different than rest of them do.
i was a bit disappointed by the many bugs and balance issues. but that seems to be the norm in games nowadays?
the price is right if you get many hours of pleasure from the game,
but i still think it's legit if people are not ok with paying a price like that, for a game that still needs alot of work to be 'done' or 'finished'.

It's based on crytek engine so you might want to give it a miss if you are running an old PC. Pretty demanding. Most of the people I play with had to put settings on low.
