I've recently noticed that my performance has plateaued. I consistantly do well in MGE, pugs, and DM servers. I also do a lot of jump maps which I am pretty decent at. I watch plenty of demos and invite demo reviews. This post is not here to say that I am better than people and I just can't get any better. I would just like some legitimate advice about ways in which I can improve. Methods or tools that you guys have used to get better.

~thanks~

If you're already watching demos and dming there isn't much more you can do.

Identifying what your problems are in games (low damage? dying a lot? not knowing where to position yourself? missing shots?) is the first step to correcting them. Just watching invite demos alone won't make you better if you can't identify what it is they're doing differently than you are. A mentor could probably help you a lot but you need to be able to figure out your own mistakes and self correct if you want to get better.

dont play the game 100 hours every 2 weeks, lower that number because u will get sick of the game.
i quit for a few weeks and havent gone above ~25 in a long time and im better than i was when i played that much.
im still trash but im not as trash

What about in scrims?

Last I played in a team a couple weeks ago, before the leader suddenly went offline and ignored every played on the team, I was top damaging and fragging as roamer. I did not die often on the flank (unless I was suiciding) I didn't die often, though when I did it was either completely my fault (overextending for a pick) or due do my team unable to clean up a hurt player when I was low.

A good team can pull you up so much. Having someone who knows the game and has good gamesense maincalling in your team can make you go so much further.

I'm pretty consistent when it comes to hitting rockets, and I think my positioning is something that could be better. Dying often isn't usually a factor for me, as I play a little bit more calculated then constantly suiciding for frags. I try to pick out my own mistakes, but as with anything, stuff is definitely looked over.

First, who do you watch? If you want to improve your positioning, watch people who know when to pull or push. Second, always ask yourself "Why did i do that?" If you dont have a reason, dont do it next time. Keep the things that you did do correctly in your mind next time you play. Good luck

Take a break for a bit and then come back. Sometimes all you need is just new experiences in something different to put things in perspective. That experience could come from other games, real live, or any number of places.

The important thing is to not get discouraged and give up. You will get better, just don't try to force it. It will come in time.

I've watched a bunch of Seagull's stuff from s13 and s14. I also watched some of the invite demos reviews that grape and other soldiers did. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.

" I consistantly do well in MGE, pugs, and DM servers."

a lot of the time doing well in those things is not efficient practice

im not sure what you want to improve on specifically but it sounds like you have played enough to feel comfortable in most categories now what I recommend is practicing something specific

focus in on just aim during a session of DM try to not rocket jump much and dont play positioning like crates or anything just focus on hitting each rocket even deep mid range splashes dont be afraid to miss but try to aim each rocket well if you are going to die to someone at least dont let them get away cleanly always try to at least land 1 juicy rocket

next time maybe try to focus on jumping and staying alive (this will frustrate people and people may say its bad practice) in my opinion if you can learn to focus on not just your enemies but your teammates it can help tremendously try to see where your scouts are going in DM or where your other soldier is jumping and follow up on them try to see everyone not just your enemies wait for your opening and jump to your teammates and help them out

like I said people may get mad at that and its understandable but its actually great practice for real games in general there are 2 main things scouts can do for movement either AD mash vs hitscan and doublejump vs projectiles but AD mashing sucks vs projectiles and double jumping is very predictable for hitscan so if you can help your scouts out by sending rockets at AD mashing scouts they can help you out by shooting the double jump spamming ones this kind of coordination will allow everyone to play more confident and aggressive while still being safe

sorry for wall of text with no punctuation im stupid :( I hope you understand gl friend^^

one more thing you might want to try and get active maybe go for a walk in the morning or find something you enjoy that gets you on your feet even if its just a little bit when you are bored a healthy body = a healthy mind and healthy minds think fast and can focus much easier

you've probably just hit that point where you're "good" compared to when you started. you rapidly improve at first, and for a while, then suddenly hit a "peak" and improvement from there is slow. you probably haven't plateaued, improvement is just less noticeable/obvious now.

That's probably true, however it is still frustrating.

As opposed to just a mentor, you can watch demos with people on your team/people you like and play with a lot who are around your skill level. Try and find people around your level who you think understand the game well or better than you to go through demos with you rather than just dm players.

Ive found that playing with good friends is very helpful since noone is afraid to realtalk about what you or others are doing wrong after some gametime, just hangout in mumble and talk about the game and what you or others could have done differently

Your "doing well in MGE and DM" might not be everyone else's doing well btw. If you reached a point where youcan't seem to get better personally, try to change stuff around, play other games that could also somehow improve your aim and reaction time in-game, a good example is Instagib or Reaction time games, they will raise your reaction time and reflexes.

You might feel like you're plateauing but you're probably not. I made a quick graph of what skill development is actually like.

More than likely you've hit the area I've marked in red.

The best way to get out of that slump is either A. continue to practice and wait or B. Pick up a new way to practice/more difficult practice Ex 1. MGE/Pug with UGC steel-silver players? Move on to a partner that plays in High open or IM. Ex 2. Don't have a mentor? Get one that's fairly good (most players in IM and Invite)

No offense to point number 1 here, but ugc and silver is pretty far below typicals pugs I play. Secondly, finding a mentor is tough.. Not sure who I should ask.

Recorded blaze's pov of the two finals maps, to see what he does. :) I would like to go over them with another invite player, but I'm not sure who.
