I noticed allot of roamers using the original for the left handed rocket jumps. I play pocket so i was wondering if i should stick with the regular our move to the original.
Why?
Why?
"It's all a preference thing. Try out both, see what you like better" seems to be the general consensus.
A lot of people won't switch to the original because they aren't used to the rocket jumping or the up close twitch aiming. I think once you get used to it it has more advantages though. The only downside i see is not being able to shoot around walls, but that is only on one side and it's harder to shoot around those walls on the other side.
might as well use the rocket launcher because you'll be forced to use it if loadouts are down and if you wanna fool around with the direct hit, you'll have to adjust to it.
Original is better, read the thread that Spig linked.
It seems to me like if you're a roamer you'd default to the rocket launcher since jumps are easier, while pockets would use the original for easier/better/more precise spam and long distance rockets
or, you know, you could just fucking realize the only real difference between the two is that the rockets of the original come out of you at a slightly different angle

In terms of firing rockets/combat, the only difference is spamming around corners, which is pretty negligible since they both have tradeoffs.
For jumping, stock is better because the off-centered source of the projectile allows for greater control over velocity and angle on all types of jumps. Left walls just require compensation for the source of the projectile and are easily learned. The original is still capable of 95% of the jumps stock can do, so it's not a huge deal which one you pick.

rockets coming out from beside you vs below you is a pretty huge difference when youre not just shooting the ground
go play endif/directs with the original then with the stock and you can feel the difference

when someone who is rly good kills me with the original i switch to it for a while
then when i see someone do fast jumps with the regular i switch back

I didn't say there wasn't a difference. I said there was a tradeoff, so it didn't matter much.

I'd probably use my original instead of the stock if they made it sound like something other than total shit. It needs to be louder for starters.

The best part about the original is how much less noise it makes. So easy to miss it if you're distracted, which is a huge bonus to roamers.

I find the sound the original makes to be much louder and more distinctive than the normal rocket launcher to be completely honest.
original is better. It shoots from the center, which means you can shoot around both left & right walls and rj from either side equally. with the regular you can shoot around walls from the right side but you have to fully expose yourself to shoot around the left side. you also don't have to compensate for the rockets coming out of the right side of the screen. in conclusion, the original is more versatile and is better in more situations therefore it is better.
that being said i will still use the regular because i'll always have it when steam servers go down, i've already familiarized myself with it and can't be bothered to relearn to aim/jump and i'd like to keep the projectile origin the same throughout all my classes, if valve made a client cvar that made all projectiles come out of the center i'd be all over that.
ps. any rj you can do with the regular, you can do with the original. prove me wrong.

You'll get slightly more distance from the normal rocket launcher off of right walls because the rocket comes out that side, so it's closer to your hitbox when fire it. I would prove it but I don't use the original at all so I don't think it would be anything close to an accurate "proof" Either way it's not that important.
I can jump fine from the left with default launcher.
neither will actually improve your gameplay. pick one.
Messed with the original. Easy as shit to aim with. Probably going to stick with it.

That's part of the reason I don't like it, it makes me feel like some super try-hard faggot for abusing bad sound design. I know this will get -fragged but I just don't want to use a weapon that's superior because valve gave it a fucking silent firing sound.

That's just a silly state of mind.

Is it just me or is the repost cycle getting shorter around here?
Saying Original is better because the sound is like saying Fish/Arm > Bat because it leaves FISH/ BAT HIT in the killfeed
It's all preference
It's all preference
its entirely preference overall original is better, but it has really slight advantages that if you're comfortable with stock already it wouldn't matter
Most people have covered the major differences (stock works if items are down, can shoot around right corner but not left, original is easier to aim (which is stupid cause if you just get used to stock, that one is easy to aim as well... you're just shooting the ground for god's sake), etc).
The only thing I haven't seen posted here is that you can jump faster w/ stock launcher. I don't mean in terms of velocity, but since you don't have to turn as far to your right for a jump, you can do more of them in a shorter amount of time.
In the end all these "differences" are pointless because jumping is pretty much the same, and aiming pretty much just consists of shooting feet.
