You guys are -fragging milo but he's kind of right. There are a ton of issues that make mm unprofessional and simply inadequate enough to be close to an official competitive ruleset. With that said, I think Valve can easily improve some things if they want. It's just up to Valve, once again.
man i cant wait to cheer for my favorite team at my favorite game's favorite type of tournament

It seems like reddit has been blowing up about MM now that Casual is mostly fixed. It was impressive how quickly they tackled the issues with Casual after the reddit shitstorm, it would be great if they did the same with Matchmaking. Hopefully Valve understands that making somewhat transparent posts like this helps put people's minds at ease and understand what the hell is going on. If they continue this line of communication I think the game can be changed for the better much faster than the past.
Also, Sideshow might be talking about some other annual TF2 event that happens in the summer. A major would be super exciting, but that isn't going to happen until your average TF2 player is playing matchmaking.

how can we confirm the legitimacy of this thread so my hopes aren't getting up for no reason

To be fair the Overwatch competitive matchmaking was totally fucked, but they started doing tournaments with 100k prizepools and just ignored some of the dumb stuff like the coin flip.

there isnt a major sideshow was just joshin and this thread was made as a joke, he was talking about an undisclosed summer tf2-related event he would be taking part in
i dont believe anyone here is serious if they say they believe in a tf2 major and ik this whole thread is a joke but milo has a good point mm was a total failure. as i said in another thread, mm right now is just exactly like casual, except 6v6. mm needs something to distinguish it from a pub such as 2 class limits on every class to start with

You haven't truly experienced matchmaking until you've played gorge 10 times in a row.
Or the glory that is 6 crit-a-cola scouts.

You can compare Valve's negligence to Blizzard's Overwatch competitive matchmaking rules, but lest we all forget, TF2 in its current, competitive 6s format has been played for nearly a decade now. To ignore the majority of the rules and maps that made the 6s format successful for as long as it has been without any developer support is an enormous oversight. I tried matchmaking for the first time 2 nights ago, to play 6 maps, 3 of which were cp_gorge/swiftwater, and the rest but 1 taking place on a Stockholm server. 1/6 maps I played felt "legit," as all the players had normal ping, but then again it only lasted a total of 3 minutes.
It's honestly shocking.

The best part of all this is that Valve appeared to realize how badly they fucked up, made the classic "o shit we fukd up, dont u weorry we gonna commincate like CRAZy here" blog post, and then
nothing
nothing
