The main issue is when you're in a position like rando, a lot of newer competitive players will look up to you as a role model and saying shit like that creates a self-fufilling circle of developing toxic players who think funny twitter burns are a cool way to get attention. Players should develop to filter out trashtalk like that but if you're high level and you're trashtalking like that you're just not a healthy minded person. Trying to tilt someone strategically through personal insults is also immorally low (not that i'm aware of if any of that is going on in this scenario)

There's a difference between unprofessional hate and sledging. Every sport has shit talking, but in TF2 it's ridiculous. Do you see top Dota 2 or CS:GO players saying the same shit these guys are?

I don't fucking get this, trash talk is part of competition and it will always be. I don't there is anything wrong with trying to get a psychological edge and trying to tilt your opponents (within reason) people do this in basketball, football and pretty much every sport.

these "top dota 2 or csgo players" of whom you speak are people who would do the same thing rando does, but are essentially paid not to do it. games with a much larger scene than tf2 attract sponsors who do not want their names associated with "BM." you are utterly delusional if you believe that Valve sat down, had a talk with everyone, and decided they wouldn't put money into TF2 because a few invite players weren't treating the game seriously. you're looking at everything backwards; dota players didn't avoid insulting each other so that Valve could create dota 2 and show their appreciation with multi-million dollar tournaments. AS A RESULT of the money valve knew they could make with dota 2, sponsors were attracted, molding players into behaving "more professionally" for the sake of everyone involved

Shittalk and conflict is absolutely great for creating a narrative that forces the viewer to become invested in one competitor over another.

If rando's binds upset you maybe it gave you a reason to care about froyo moreso than you otherwise would have? That's why I was so willing to comment on it throughout the cast. When both teams are more or less unknown quantities (due to not streaming or posting much - of course b4nny is a BIG exception here) it's sometimes difficult for passive observers to really find a reason to care about the different competitors they're watching. Rando played the heel well.
