Any movie with a great story line and characters. Thanks
Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal is a really solid movie, if you're looking for something a bit dark and gritty.

In no particular order: 25th Hour, Primal Fear, American History X, No Country for Old Men, The Fugitive, Stringer, Se7en, Hannibal movies (The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Red Dragon), A Beatiful Mind, Inception.
The Departed is a must see if you like those Boston gangster movies. Got a really good cast to, Mark Wahlberg, Matt Damon, Leonardo Dicaprio, & Jack Nicolson.
Fail-Safe -- If you are into old movies (black and white) this is a great flick. Don't look-up any spoilers, just read the basic description and watch the movie. Had me on the edge of my seat by the very end.
The Cincinnati Kid -- Probably the best poker movie ever made.
Stone Cold -- Biker movie starring Football Legend Brian Bosworth! I don't know why but I really like this movie.

came here to say this lol. Jake Gyllenhaal plays the main character really well and does a great impression of a sociopath. I'd recommend also checking out Happiness and welcome to the dollhouse by Todd Solondz. If you have a dark sense of humor I'm sure you will enjoy both of them.

A few personal Favorites:
The Broken Circle Breakdown. If you don't mind an emotional movie with a perfect ending. It was filmed in the Netherlands and spoken in dutch yet set in rural America. I really can't stress how amazing the last scene is.
The Thin Red Line. It's 3 hours long yet puts meaning to the Phrase "Every Frame a Painting". Malick's directing isn't for everyone but the story, visuals and setting are unparalleled.
Seven Psychopaths. Christopher Walken, Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, Tom Waits, Woody Harrelson to name a few. This movie is amazing if you're looking for great characters/ story.
Alternatively, Pick an actor you like and go through their IMDb page or there are top 100 lists on websites like Rotten Tomatoes that is bound to have something you'll like.

Some stuff I watched recently: Warrior, Battle Royale, Hell or High Water (in theaters), 25th Hour, Assassin, The Lobster, Garden State.
Old Boy and I Saw The Devil are my two favorite movies. Be warned though, both are foreign films so you have to be ok with subtitles. They are also both quite gory, but I think that's a means to an end with them.
A couple of my favorite foreign films, if that's something you enjoy. Swiped plot details from IMDb because I'm lazy.
Amélie, "Amélie is an innocent and naive girl in Paris with her own sense of justice. She decides to help those around her and, along the way, discovers love."
After the Wedding, "A manager of an orphanage in India is sent to Copenhagen, Denmark, where he discovers a life-altering family secret."
Saw Nightcrawler and Silence of the Lambs mentioned above, I highly recommend both as well.

Spirited away and Kiki's delivery service are masterpieces, both have a lot of depth, good characterization and arcs, and have a beautiful unique story.
the conjuring, pan's labyrinth, the invitation and cabin in the woods are p cool
Does anyone have good horror recommendations it's so hard to find decent horror movies w/o watching a bunch of crappy ones in between.

La Haine, American Psycho, A Clockwork Orange, every Tarantino movie and if you are into good horror movies then watch Stephen King's IT and The Shining.
