Reflex is very playable. It just doesn't have as many art assets as a finished game would. I'm disappointed they changed the art style though.

right now windowed mode is basically unplayable
the game itself is playable but it is in alpha so there are some issues (weapon balance, very few good maps, movement stuff is weird) most of which will get fixed as time fast and a number have already been addressed for 0.37

if you want to play TDM you can join #reflexpickup.us and #reflexpickup.eu on quakenet however I think I should note that currently the only way to tell friend from foe is based on outline and it's kinda difficult to do so, this is however being addressed in 0.37 with the release of ctf

Definitely worth a buy, although be warned it has a small community, probably even smaller than ours.

To get the most out of it I recommend you join the official global Discord server (and maybe your region specific one, although I mainly use global) for the game as it's very active, it's an easy way to organize duels (at any level) etc. Devs also use it, if you wanted to voice any concerns about the game/give feedback.

i've been playing this in whatever gamemode it is that's like FFA clan arena, pretty fun but that server is rarely populated and all the other ones are duel-only as far as i can tell

there are very few servers that only allow 1 gamemode, and they specify it in the server name usually

simple zip files. first one is a doom3 hitsound with a "you are dead" heavy quote as a killsound.
second is the first version hitsound they used in the very first steam release, then they gone mad and remastered blowing up cashregister sounds as hitsounds (killsound stay the same.
iteamsounds are changed armour and mega sound. you basicly gonna hear "green/yellow/red" as pickupsound, the mega is from a q2 custom pak file - loud and beautiful.

So it seems like some Reflex community members got together, got a couple of servers, and have made an effort to get regular games happening. It started pretty slow but has actually picked up now a bit and there's people playing a lot of the time in the evenings. The main server is called "Reflex Newbie Nights at 9PM CST" and sometimes there's a 2nd server with a similar name. They mostly play free for all deathmatch which is exactly what I want from Reflex (as opposed to getting all hardcore into 1v1 duels which is what most of the servers are running). So if you're like me in this regard and just wanna casually frag some folks please stop by and play -- It's really fun!

Oh yeah Reflex is 10 bucks. For that price you basically can't go wrong. If you like the feel of fighting in TF2 then you will most likely feel right at home in this modern Quake remake.\
