Back when I was excited about stuff like the Nintendo DS, I wondered what the future would hold after that. This is the kind of stuff that I thought about and thinking in the next couple years something even better will emerge is an amazing thought. I really hope I can get my hands on one of these because it looks awesome.

Pretty good summary. You should add paid online and no planned region locking.
Also I believe the specified battery life was 2-6 hours.

So this is out now. Anyone get one on release? Been watching some BOTW streams and it looks really good.

Got my Switch this morning! Breath of the Wild is downloading. Will update with thoughts later. Been playing a racing game called Fast RMX and it's really fun. It's similar to F-Zero.

all of which have less reviews - weighted scores for games with more recent review dates (more reviewers) look like this, albeit with only games from 2013 or so onward. the only comparable game in terms of retaining such a high average with much higher volume is gta iv.

Tbh I'd give Zelda:BotW a 10 too. I spent 6 hours without a break from 12 to 6 am, best 6 hours of my life tbh.

The Nintendo Switch launch has been taken greatly out of proportion. When the PS4 launched with the blue light of death, everyone said it was DOA. When the Xbox One launched with disc drive issues, everyone again said it was DOA. Now the Switch is out, and it's having some issues as well.
Noticing a trend here?
Personally, I'm loving the Switch. Zelda is great, and... uh.... well, Zelda is great. Doesn't really have anything else right now, but it does have Zelda, which is nice, I guess. My unit has zero dead or stuck pixels, zero desync issues, and no odd or unusual graphic/sound issues. It worked straight out of the box, just like pretty much every other Switch on the market. Yeah, it sucks to be in the 1% that actually did get a defective Switch, but the other 99% are happily enjoying Zelda from the comfort of their bathroom.
The only complaint I have as far as hardware goes, is that damn wrist strap. It is legit easy to put that on backwards, and in turn, fuck up your joycon controller. It's actually easier to put it on wrong, than it is to put it on correctly. There's a bit of resistance when you put it on properly, and little to no resistance if it's backwards. So like, that's a design flaw, for sure.
Also, the strap itself is poorly designed. Like, even if it's on properly, it's a major bitch to get it off again. It just sort of sticks to the joycon. Doesn't help they include an additional flimsy locking mechanism, which is totally unnecessary. Thing could survive a damn 10,000 foot drop and still be securely attached to the controller. The extra lock is just overkill.
ps. Zelda BOTW gets a perfect 10 from me. It's definitely living up to the hype.

All screen manufacturers say that up to a certain number of dead pixels is acceptable.
