We get ingame support for 6v6 and now we're offering money for and are trying to advocate a game mode that's pointless and just adds one player to the field for no particular reason?
Wasn't this shit tested back in 2007? I thought that sigafoo's trip to valve would underscore to him what valve want out of competitive but even at the most rudimentary level sigafoo struggles to understand.
I am all for testing different things, even prolander and things like that I would say is worth a try within 6v6 because we get to see how that setup plays, unfiltered, when teams are actually trying for a prize pool. This opportunity has been horribly squandered: Top teams can't play properly because they have to add one more randomer who won't know his role in the team, newbies can't play because it's against what is literally in the game and labeled as "competitive tf2", which is 6v6, so honestly who the fuck is this for other than sigafoo?
Essentially, he doesn't like the backlash from the 6's players so he's stopped this cup being 6's altogether, because I can't fathom any other reason other than him being unable to properly engage in the criticism we had and getting mad.
This cup is now a waste of time, what could have been a push for change to test how different 6v6 structures affect the game, the competitive ceiling and the friendliness to watch/play for new players, has now turned into a joke cup that's 7v7 for some reason that we can't test because there's one extra class so everything we find is null and void.
Legit would be better to donate to ETF2L/ESEA/OZ At this point lol.

sigafooHey guys,
massive delusional idiot lolhighlander sigafoo here
Apologies for the switch up, but I'm pressing on. Besides the class / team changes, everything is pretty much the same. I did some play testing of this last night and it actually played fairly smoothly on payload and koth. Obviously it's experimental, but I'm looking forward to it :).
Any of you who don't want to play, that's cool. I expect to be torn apart in this thread as per usual, but people who are interested. Currently the prize pool is at $2,160 and I think it'll get to around 2.5k.
Rules and such can be seen at cup.sigafoo.tv
And you can register your team at register.sigafoo.tv
Thanks <3

like i was actually kind of looking forward to seeing how this played out with the pick/ban system, payload etc but this is just retarded now. this is literally doing nothing to help the game, more likely the opposite. makes me wonder if ur only doing this for the attention and ur ego. maybe this is some form of autistic revenge fantasy against the meanie 6s players idk

if mid was more open then bagel could be a really good 6s map btw
in other news this tournament is a waste of money and the only thing it'll do is provide recent evidence as to why prolander & 7s & permaheavy/sniper arent fun to play with or against

not sure why he chose to divide the entire prizepool between just the first and second teams...
seems like he just wants to make a $1500 donation to b4nnys i61 fundraiser and watch 6s players hate themselves wasting their time with 7v7 aidslander

I was 100% willing to throw together a puggy roster just to give this a try before, now I doubt I could find 6 other people even if I still wanted to play myself.

tbh i haven't read all the comments on this post, but what i don't understand is valve is supporting 6s, why would you want to put money into something that has already been tested millions of years ago. Why and try and make a new format, that is like half 6s and half hl. This honestly makes no sense to me,ye ok it might be fun, but its not going to go anywhere(people are not going to watch this mess i think, its just easier to watch 6s). If i was going to use that kind of money id put it towards a 6s lan, or a 6s cup or something else, valve supports 6s. We should not try and split up the community even more, just put the money towards a 6s tourney, lot more people are going to watch a 6s tourney then what ever mess this will turn into(Let's be real here).
This is just my opinion, i feel like sigafoo cant accept that valve doesn't want to support hl or something, idk, i hope if this goes through that something good will happen. I feel bad for people that only play hl, but hl people need to realize, valve supports 6s(and the class they "main" is just a offclass used in 6s) and if we can put our entire effort into 6s as a community lot more good will come out of it.

Let's just keep making different game modes and class rules when we need to do the exact opposite in order to push tf2 forward!!! What's this? Valve, however slightly, has opened their minds to 6v6?!?! Let's make a 7v7 league!!!

DollyEssentially, he doesn't like the backlash from the 6's players so he's stopped this cup being 6's altogether, because I can't fathom any other reason other than him being unable to properly engage in the criticism we had and getting mad.
I'm not sure what about my demeanor has given off that I got mad. Switching this to sevens is something I originally wanted to do. If you look at my original video release before anyone even knew about the challenge cup "I was thinking really hard of doing sevens, honest to god, I'm very tempted to go to sevens." This wasn't something I just pulled out after reading through the responses. And I did listen to the opinions of people. I changed my koth maps, added in bagel. Also took out vanguard and put in something more conventional of metal works. As well as increase the number of bans.
What happened was, I changed (my original idea) to fit closer to what we have currently in the community (sixes). Once this was released, I saw the push back against the idea and realized that no matter what I release. If it's not traditional sixes, it'll get push back. I realized I'd rather stand behind the tournament I originally wanted than to change it to something I wasn't fully behind.
cornpop16Holly shit though you just went in the complete opposite direction. At this point your format is so far away from traditional 6s, no valuable information will be gained, and this tournament will prove nothing to the community.
I don't think I advertised this as looking to provide valuable information to the sixes community. If anything that was more of a side effect than my intention. My intention was to create tournament of a non-tradtional format and see what happens. (e.g. change class limits, weapons and maps.) If anything this wouldn't really make a lot of sense, I was changing so many variables from traditional sixes. Who knows if it would of even provided anything truly useful.
I thought nite had a nice post explaining why multiple smaller cups would be better for trying to get info out of the cup(s). Since one big one, probably wouldn't really do that.
I see this more akin to something like Rocket Leagues 10k - Mid-Season Mayhem. Where it's not doing anything serious, but challenging players to new situations.
I plan to stick to this. I'm sorry that I didn't stick to (this) my original idea to begin with. That was shitty of me and I didn't intend to make this a bait and switch like thing.
I did play testing of this format prior to the switch to make sure it didn't play horrible and honestly it was pretty good. Better than I was anticipating. Pretty much everyone who played in it liked it and even from that pug alone, they've formed a team to enter into the cup. I hope this could be fun or maybe it won't. It's an experiment :). Maybe it'll flop and be terrible and stupid, but hey... at least someone got 1.5k for it.

niteMR_SLINI don't think Valve thinks that TF2 with no class limits is the best way to push the game forward.
if this is the case then why doesn't valve give us any indication more than a cryptic post from someone who visited valve months ago? It's not like the format sigafoo is pushing for this tournament is any closer to the theoretical future valve competitive system than current matchmaking is, and if it IS closer then why leave 99% of the community in the dark about it?
You already know what valve's policy is on community communication, so I assume this is rhetorical?
Valve doesn't do direct communication with the community. It's fairly well known and documented.

Sigafoo mate, I am not sure what you're trying to achieve and do what you like with your money but 7 Prolander has been tried and failed previously, remember doing it Wireplay years ago, it was good fun but you won't gauge interest from people. What will happen is people will sign up, play for the money then leave.
Good luck with the tournament matey.

What's the point of playing 7v7? Does sigafoo plan on having it replace hl or 6's?

Sigafoo cherrypicking my argument
Although his response to that specific comment was reasonable and valid, it does not change the fact that we always gave the "oh we don't have valve's support so lets make ends meet" but now we literally have support in the game that steers us in a certain direction, and that gives us fundamental tools to work with that have proven to be successful (6v6) that we can explore within, and sigafoo chooses to make a cup with a substantial prize pool that isn't 6v6, the thing that's in the game?!?. Sigafoo doesn't understand that there isn't a lot of money in the scene, and while having a prize pool is good for testing formats in a legitmate comp environment, going completely against the grain of valve with this tournament is going to perplex everyone in the community, because not wanting to waste money on dumb shit is literally what we live for as humans.

Valve doesn't do direct communication with the community. It's fairly well known and documented.
That's a roundabout way to say "valve is dumb"

I don't think Valve thinks that TF2 with no class limits is the best way to push the game forward.[/quote]
if this is the case then why doesn't valve give us any indication more than a cryptic post from someone who visited valve months ago? KevmeisterSo many complaints about someone giving away his own money?
the guy can do with his money as he pleases. however most people are annoyed that this could have been a good experimental cup and instead he's basically making a few invite teams deal with a poo gamemode for a few days in exchange for money, and the community will gain nothing from it overall
