With the new maps cup over I was thinking to myself what tf2 was like before this. And I thought for everyone else out there like me we should Have a Old Maps Cup
I haven't been playing tf2 for long about a year and I know that theres been older version of maps like bad lands (That's the only one ive seen but I think theres more) And yes We can make Arena Respawn Great Again.
I don't know if people have downloadsbut if they do please dm me them.
I don't know if theres enough old maps to do this or if theres even enough to.
Just a thought.

This was done, more or less, before. Check this thread out: http://www.teamfortress.tv/23875/real-ly-dead-map-6v6-tourney
I thought it was pretty fun, but the general consensus might have been it wasn't all that great? Maybe I'm wrong there. Personally, I think it would be better to have tournaments that are a bit more meaningful than things like "old map cups", but there will probably always be some number of people interested. By meaningful, I mean the new maps cup sounded pretty meaningful and things like a tournament that would "preview" ESEA-I playoffs once the last week of ESEA is over would be cool.

the last post in that thread is kevin saying he doesn't think vods exist, does anyone know if other footage surfaced? would really enjoy watching.

Honest question, why is standin widely considered bad? I like the map, and thought the different strategy required to win it was a positive factor. Has it ever been tried in 6s? I know it existed in HL for 1 or 2 seasons.

It would be pretty fun to watch but there are reasons those maps aren't played anymore. They're bad.
except gpit. that fell to the invite illuminati

also dustbowl was played in esea and etf2l wtf
the new maps cup was hosted because i missed gravelpit.
all other old maps are p bad tbh

sorry for derailing the thread again, but if anyone knows where i can find esea dustbowl_pro footage that would be cool. yt is turning nothing up but is crowded with pub gameplay so hard to tell.

The map they used was actually cp_pro_dustbowl. cp_dustbowl_pro was a later attempt. No idea where you could find footage though

gravel pit was the worst map i played in that old maps tournament
freight warmfront and yukon were way better esp. warmfront which I really liked

it would be cool to see cp_yukon played in invite because it almost forces a team to run sniper if the other team is running it
wouldn't mind seeing cp_sdnaldab and cp_gates_granary played

You mean the old maps cup??
And also I didn't think that someone so big in community would notice this.

and whatever arena respawn maps there are
If there are any more please let me know.

ctf_turbine_pro anyone, it was played more recently that either dustbowl or gravel pit.

ctf sucks in any format
Also turbine is such a boring map.

Maps that aren't *abysmally* bad - just not as good as what we have that would totally be playable in a cup:
CP:
CP_Freight (trains + wonky respawn times)
CP_Prolane (this is pretty debatable as to whether or not it's abysmal - it's really close - sniper viable to mid super difficult last)
CP_Follower (weird map design, hard to hold properly in stalemates)
CP_Warmfront (mid holder bus parking shenanigans and last pushing = very hard)
CP_Yukon (gigantic mid, hard to push last)
----
CP_Gullywash with water under last (very easy to spawn camp last/hard to impossible to rotate away from ubers).
CP_Process with tunnel to sewer and/or + water in second for hilarious jump shenanigans.
KOTH:
Coalplant/Ashville (bad respawn timers)
CTF:
Turbine Pro (frustrating game-play mechanics very possible - very long game mode in general)
CP_Standin (supposedly the de-cap timer is fixed-ish, so maybe it would be fun to play as a one-off laugh).
Map that should have never been removed:
GPIT
Ultra-classics that would be fun to see purely for nostalgia purposes - but pretty gnarly to play:
Dustbowl_pro (the map is a straight line)
CP_Well (trains, start timer, very weird map design relative to what is played now - just remember, go right on red!)
CP_Obscure (some normal pushing/stalemate situations are extremely dangerous for one team more so than the other - very difficult to defend last).
