probably 4-6 days

i have chronic insomnia and usually sleep once every 2-3 days for a couple of hours

even if i try to sleep in pitch black while listening to light rain/music, nothing really helps
coffee actually makes me sleepy most of the time though, but that seems to be only during daylight hours
the caffeine actually kicks in at night and ends up making me stay up even later

Around 40 hours and made the mistake of taking some pills while I still had some alcohol in my system when I went to bed. I woke up like an hour later with the weirdest fucking sensation ever, like my brain couldn't process 3D spatial movement and had to overcompensate, as though I was in some 7 dimensional space or some weird shit like that. Ultra disoriented. I was fully aware of my state but I couldn't for the life of me walk normally, stand up normally or even think normally, it was like something wasn't working right in my head.

I've been up for almost 72hrs straight on 2 different occasions. I'd rather not ever repeat that both times when I feel asleep after words I slept ~20hrs straight usually at that point I woke up to go to the bathroom eat and then went straight back to bed.

94 and a countless amount of 48-72. insomnia was a bitch.

most of the time for the 48-72 hours, i would sleep 3 hours be up for 48 sleep 2 be up for another 50+. i also dont remember much about the 94 hours other than being a zombie at school.

I always pass out around the 24 hour mark. There's been a few times when I've tried to fix my sleep schedule by staying up all night then going to bed early that day, but I always fall asleep mid-day and fuck it up even more.

I used to pull allnighters fairly often in high school, nowadays if I do that my heart aches the whole day. It's not a very healthy kind of achievement.

alderi've honestly never gone over 24 hours, dunno how people do it
i pass out after being up for 18~ish

That's the biggest hurdle! Usually somewhere between 18 and 22 hours for me, but after that it's like the longer you stay awake, the more awake you will feel.

I've never gone past 49 hours, because the edge of staying up that long starts to be more of a cost than a benefit. But I do go past 24, into the 30-40 hrs territory pretty often (once every three weeks on average?) Yesterday I was awake for 37 hours.

Something I think is really important to consider/understand on this topic is that you shouldn't do this if you don't want to be awake really bad in the moment. Staying awake past 20 hours can be god fucking awful when you don't want to do it. However, the more fucking amped to be awake and do shit you are, the better the experience is. You flip the duality on it's head, being in control of your body, rather than it being in control of you. This is why most people who don't enjoy it are people doing it for challenge or insomniacs.

I don't know if it has to do with like your body kicking into a heightened sense of awareness or some fight/flight shit, but I love staying awake for a really long time, especially when you got something you're psyched to be working on or do during that time. Frequently, I feel way more awake, more human, more ALIVE, in those days than I ever do in a normal one. Also, I often make progress on chains of thoughts simply due to how long I've been in awake. When you wipe the fucking slate every 16 hours and have to reorient yourself every morning, it can be limiting in a way. Ever make some huge revelation, think really hard about something, or write a big essay about some important topic, then go to bed, wake up, and the mindstate you were in the night before has slipped away? This is the only way to avoid this. Granted you are mentally active, 40 hours awake can give you a lot more time within the same general thinking session to connect ideas and add new layers to pyramids of associated thought. I could go on forever about this, thx for making thread.

joshuawnVulcanjoshuawnsnipjesus christ dude that's insane, how many classes were you taking that semester? and what are auditory hallucinations?
auditory hallucinations are those related to hearing (i.e. hearing sounds that don't actually exist). namely sounded like men of varying distances whispering or suddenly yelling syllables (swore i heard my name a few times & jolted out of bed), the building creaking (the building i live in is stable & rarely, if ever, creaks), and a few times before i completely fell asleep i would be jolted awake by a really loud beep (to reiterate, none of these sounds could've been real).

the main visual hallucinations were: shadow-men & shadow-animals (such as snarling dogs near my doorway and rats in the crevices of my bed sheets), LED's on the electronics around my room (i.e. my desktop's monitors, my laptop, and my smoke detector) being extremely bright for a split second, and the walls "bleeding" colorfully.

overall, it felt what i imagine would be a really bad LSD trip.

this sounds a lot like the hallucinations i used to get from sleep paralysis. im also one of the ones who cant understand being awake more than 20ish hours but one particularly bad sleep paralysis episode had me waking up in the middle of the night several times a night for about 3 weeks.

I always have trouble with sleeping.
It's much better now, these days I can sleep up to 6 hours on a normalish day.
Used to stay up for 80+ hours constantly a year ago, it almost got me injured multiple times because I used to work at a factory lol.

sophomore year of high school, had 2 classes that assigned final projects the first day of the semester. one was due 2 days before the end of the semester, the other was due 1 day before the end of the semester. the night before each was due, i pulled all-nighters to do the entire project. i felt like shit going into school both days, but hey, i got a B on both of them.

I remember once I ended aproximately 42 hours without sleeping, while simultaneously being like 28 hours without eating.

I didnt feel that bad, neither had any issues nor colapsed or any of the sort. I just ate a ton and slept like 18 hours in a row after that time.

Not proud about it tho
