Yeah this situation fucking blows. We almost never end up getting two scrims (which is about what it should be) between 930 and 1030 because people can't show up on time for some reason. And yeah it's my own team that's holding things up several times a season but it seems other teams just don't show up for 10-15 minutes at least ALL THE TIME so we get 1.5 scrims at best. This is both with scheduled scrims as well as scrims that you get off IRC/Discord. Just because their one guy is looking in there for scrims doesn't mean he has 6 people sitting there waiting to join most of the time. Just show up on time, know when scrims times are, and join quick you fucks. It's inconsiderate to both your opponents and your own team to waste so much time.

THEBILLDOZERthis wouldnt happen if we still used IRC
Why have we moved away from this? There's still discord which operates pretty much the same as IRC. Is it simply that there are fewer teams?

There's some conflicting facts goin on... people say they use discord to find scrims nowadays but they also get cancelled or delayed. If u used discord how it was meant to be used (like irc: when u have 6 in mumble, u lf scrim) those issues would occur pretty rarely. u see there's really no rush to find a scrim before u have 6 in mumble bc if u actually want to get good as a team there's always some talking to do whether it's about a map or internal team things. nevertheless, if everyone did it this way, they wouldn't have to wait more than a few minutes--from personal experience.

Just blacklist them from scrims, if any of the other open leaders have any backbone they'll do the same so that team will either learn to show up on time or end up with no scrims

why do ppl schedule scrims for open that makes no sense to me, there are so many fucking teams just go on discord when ur team is rdy to scrim and look for one. never made any sense to me, it does for invite
this whole "this wouldnt happen if it was irc" you can use discord just like irc if u ppl would just do it that way
like holy fuck..............
back then ONLY invite teams and MAYBE IM teams scheduled scrims because everyone knew each other at that time

the fact that there are so many more people in open IS the reason. There's a huge skill gap. i dont do that for my team because 9 times out of 10 our only option by 930 is mr popo claiming to be "mid open" since they just want to roll someone that night. I get we should play better teams to get better, but more often we actually want to have fun and play an even game. so our options are to A) schedule days/hours in advance with people we've played before or B) wait until a few minutes beforehand and risk having to choose between a shitty roll or not playing at all

I prefer scrimming teams that are better or at the same level as my team; this tends to only be ~8 teams that would make for good scrims. I'd rather just message those 8 leaders, especially ones that are prompt and don't fuck around, to make the most out of the 4 scrim slots I have each week. I'll use discord if I don't feel like searching or if I get cancelled on. Weeklies are so much more preferable.
Being late is DEFINITELY an issue, though, and it's also cyclical - you see they don't have 6, so you let your teammates mge/surf/jump/etc., and they don't get their 6 bc you don't have yours, etc.
Not ideal. 10:30 scrims tend to start on time at least. We should definitely make a conscious effort to not waste everyone's time and either be on time or give a warning.

it usually takes 15 minutes for HL scrims to start
if it takes ur team longer than the average HL team to start a scrim idk what to tell u

Can that problem be solved by a service (website) that offers reliability stats, alongside maybe the ability to compare rosters, report toxic teams, reward sportsmanship..?
Seems like scrim.me and scrim.tf (?) existed a while ago, did they help at all? Anyone know why they've closed down?

What is it with the comp tf2 community mindset that the solution for every problem is to make a new website, i don't get it.
And if that fails, make another competing website with even smaller userbase.

I'm not committing to anything by discussing what making a new service implies.

i think you just pinpointed the problem, and then came to the opposite conclusion that you should have. tf2 isn't taken seriously as an esport. it's artstyle isn't serious. it's development team isn't serious. it's really not surprising to me that people will forget or flake on their matches, much less scrims. this problem boils down to individual commitment, and infinite unknown variables. making a new website won't do shit. neither will making a thread bitching about it. this problem won't go away until something changes to make tf2 a higher priority to everyone playing it competitively.
