TBH I think they're handling this well. Day 1 was to build the hype, day 2 is the "boring but ultimately pretty cool stuff that we asked for", and the next two days are the showstoppers, presumably. I'm pretty excited

FUNKeGlad i've waited 2 years for what is so far just an uninspired summer update. I don't mind new maps and contract skins but so far it really doesn't make up for the wait. Hopefully both of the next days step it up.
They can't and shouldn't give us the good stuff now with 2 days left. Also contracts are p cool.

So hyped for the new campaign and war paints. Also it looks like the flamethrower/jetpack might be the default weapon because every other class is equipped with a stock weapon in the picture on the bottom.

I may be misunderstanding what you mean but this sounds terrible.
Unique weapons need to become like stock weapons: everybody has them by default and they arent on your backpack. Drops should be limited to crates/cases, the ocasional cosmetic and I guess cheap skins. Unlocks by achievements should instead just become cosmetic, either skins or hats.
valve gets basically nothing for unlocks since nobody buys them so it's not a bad idea, but in practice there's so many unlocks, and a sweeping majority of them are worse than the stock loadout, so they might choose an awful loadout right off the bat, instead of being forced to work with the fundamentally sound basic ones
just make them all universally unlockable through achievements, or some freebie contract equivalent solely for noobs or something

I wouldn't be opposed to making all weapons available to players immediately - or returning to some sort of achievement unlock system where you unlock weapon suites by getting to certain milestones. At this point it's just kind of pointless to get weapon drops after you have all of them, and replacing them with paints or skins or whatever might actually do something other than clog up your inventory.
But my getting confused by a line in the update really isn't a big deal, so to get back to what matters - gimme that demo eagle warrior helmet.

How to fix unlocks:
-a new training mode is added for each class, with maps that teach you how to airstrafe, properly rocket jump, learn good sentry spots, set up sticky traps, etc.
-you get a stock version of all unlocks for a class when you complete the training mode
-all current unique items are made vintage/a new item quality or something
-now only shitty skins and hats and sometimes taunts drop
-skins can now be crafted into metal
i had a dream where this happened and almost cried when i woke up
War Paint replacing skins instead of weapon drops makes way more sense, I think Valve might've worded it weird. What if I want a basic unpainted unlock?
