LegendaryRQAAzazel-glassi've never gotten the vibe that the youtuber side of the tf2 community cared to promote comp tf2 very much. what's the referring to?
edit: how does anyone play or spectate overwatch without getting a seizure
I think he made a couple of videos with budsquad, and some idiots in the youtube comments section probably mocked him, so he assumes that everyone in tf2 and the competitive scene hates him or something
Its more like wherever someone brought up "good" TF2 players and someone mentioned a YouTuber, like Stabby or STAR_ himself; people would just call them Bad, Skilless Pubstompers.
stabby got like 15+ seasons of plat
star_ played plat a brick ago

indecencythats actually not true at all what he said about youtubers, we (me and dippidy) played with lazypurple and all of us on the team and alotta people outside of it said he was actually really cool and surprised how good he was at scout for being a pubbee youtuber and actually just grinded mge but he just suddenly went dark and stopped playing
You can't just conclude something because of a single example though. I mean I agree it is different today because the community has developed but this doesn't really have anything to do with what he was saying, as it refers to half a decade ago.

I had a strong vendetta against star back in the day, simply because he was the most popular tf2 youtube and seemed to hate making videos, complaining that his high effort videos made 500k views while his low effort ones got more...
That aside, I remember him making really solid points on how the competitive community is always anxious to scrutinize the people who try to be missionaries of the game. He said something specifically around the time of Ruwin's crucifixion, which if you think about it, is what already happens to b4nny on the regular now. The difference being that b4nny is too thick skinned and stubborn to be bothered by it.
It's funny looking back on it retrospectively, as people's biggest gripes with Ruwin were his proclivity to a juvenile sense of humor, and ultimately ONE comment about a picture of someone he went to high school with. If only the eager-to-persecute knew how much more they'd come to hate b4nny.

BarryChuckleI do have to give you credit for doing your part to silence toxic voices. By which I mean I popped into your stream once, made a light-hearted joke in chat about the Pootis Fazbear fanfic and you immediately perma-banned me.
What Was the joke

I mean he failed as an OW caster/streamer/"coach" so he should probably be more sexually frustrated towards that instead. I still remember when he was an analyst at the ESL Atlantic Showdown and goes to say how teams approach a PL map the same as 2CP, leaving the audience beyond fucking lost in the process. Also if you read this stop throwing my fucking games playing ana in 2018, THANKS.

It sounds like his primary point is that if the competitive community were kinder it could have been something more. That seems super reasonable to me.

I disagree with him about most of what he said but then again this thread will most likely have 100+ comments within the next 24 hours sooooo...

Ideal? Sure. Reasonable? Probably not. There's just no way to regulate what kind of people play your game, especially when your community is small enough that you basically have to take whatever you can get, and can't ban or avoid people for being toxic outside of extreme cases. I mean, for one thing, it's a free video game. It attracts a younger, immature audience, and is also an extremely difficult competitive title, so the competitive scene attracts a lot of hotheaded idiots looking for a reason to express their ego. Sure, that can apply to every other game as well, but I seriously doubt those communities are any less toxic than ours. I imagine our bottom of the barrel idiots are the same as every other game--but our best are truly above and beyond those others, considering our playerbase is basically our devs. How many other games have half as many completely community supported services? How many other games have anything as awesome as newbie mixes?
Again, I agree that there are tons of idiots. But I just don't understand what you want done about it, or what all the complaining is supposed to really accomplish. There's no way any toxic idiot reads forums posts and goes "oh whoops, guess I should be nicer next time." If anything, they probably feed on all the bitching. The best way to deal with them is to ignore them and keep playing.

what mentality? facing facts? what do you propose as a solution?

inaction is worse than negative action. allowing people to behave the way they do without challenging their behavior is how things get worse

it would have been nice to have valve support but being toxic towards the public tf2 community does not help the cause whatsoever. Just because one thing goes wrong doesn't mean it all has to.

If you want the toxic players to leave/be focused on less then speak up and make an effort to be kind. SHOW others that this community isnt just a bunch of toxic idiots.
Be the change you wanna see.
