So I was discussing the crossbow, and someone else mentioned that the crossbow was amazing for damage. I agreed, but mentioned that it would still be run even if it did 0 damage. After some back and forth I proposed a hypothetical split up of the crossbow: one that did damage only and one that did heals only, each with the same stats as the original in their respective areas. I said the heals crossbow would be run over the damage crossbow every time; he said it'd be about a 50/50 split. Neither of us got anywhere after some debate so we decided to take it here. Which hypothetical weapon would be run, in your opinion?
TL;DR: If the crossbow was broken up into one that did damage only and one that did heals only which would be used
Reasoning would be greatly appreciated but not necessary by any means.

healing because its really really really really really really good at that

listen even if the crossbow healed the other team for as much as it heals urs it would still be run full time

i would like it more but the crossbow needs to be nerfed more than just taking away the damage and in fact i dont think the damage is an issue (unlike the old equalizer where it definitely was)

heals 1 lmao what its obvious. meds deal like 20dpm a game. ur job isnt to dmg, its to heal.

Heals would be only used by far. The old crossbow (before faster reload/passive reload) was used explicitly for healing, as Marxist says, maybe once per match (in most cases, I'd imagine once per life).
While the damage is nice support where you know you have heals available at any moment, the healing is the main purpose of this weapon, and losing uber % because you're dishing out damage detracts from the already tight timer on getting percentage when healing.

For reference I'm not supporting actually splitting up the crossbow, this was solely to compare damage to heals isolated.
The guy who said it'd be 50/50's argument was that damage could save your life/deter chasers, which I don't doubt, just the heals is so much more impactful.

This is the biggest lie I have read in my entire time of being on this website.

Just remove the reverse falloff and make it deal 40 dmg at any range and heal ~100 HP at any range. Also remove the autoreload, make it take longer to reload and we good.
This way you're probably only going to use one arrow during an intense fight unless you want to be a long time reloaing and not healing, making it risky yet still useful

for the most part your teamates stand still when expecting a crossbow and it heals for twice as much as it deals damage, so it's both easier to use for healing.
heals 75-150
damage 38-75
what reasoning brought him to the conclusion that it will be a 50/50 split?

We have a proxy for this decision -- the equalizer. When it got split up into damage and speed, we saw that speed was exclusively used since damage was useless.

The funny part is the crossbow is also better at killing than the needles if you are playing against someone that has strafe keys.

there's nothing more satisfying than spraying needles around the corner as you run away and watching a scout run into like 8 of them and get shredded

That discussion would be more appropriate for smaller team formats, but for 6s and above it's obvious heals are much more important.

Ur telling me in ulti, the game mode that exists cause arrows work the way they do, would use the dmg bow over the heal one?

discussing this is pointless, this is a non-issue and should not even be a topic of discussion tbh
there's no question people run the darts for healing. if u wanna be array seven, 1- play in pubs not 6s, and 2- dont run darts.
ur a medic, not a machine gun

I personally use it more to deal damage than heal my soldier (on baloo), but if the cross was split in two, the heals would still overweight the damage I guess..
It would also depend on the map heavily because rb7 for example is all about heals, and on very rare occasions do you benefit from arrowing the enemies.
So maybe it's all situational but hey, we have them both together so it's fine.
