This was locked as the thread surpassed 17 pages and for some reason the tftv site doesn't support 17 pages with a button on that thread (likely because we had to nuke 50+ shitposts). So i started a new thread to carry things on, sorry for the awkward hiccup of the site.
If you posted a reply around the 17 page mark, it has been scrapped sadly, but looking at what was lost, it was nothing major

i just wanna know who becomes in charge of deciding what's offensive and what's not.
as an exaggerated example if i call my friend ugly in chat am i now banned or am i missing the point? seems like it could derail very quickly.. the whole process would be very subjective

No need for more discussion, everyone has had more than enough time to be an edgy boi, virtue signal how good they are and start some witch hunts.

I will repost the "Any community that gets its laughs by pretending to be idiots will eventually be flooded by actual idiots who mistakenly believe that they're in good company."
I don't mean to specifically target getawhale but it's a good example of why I believe things are the way that they are as of late.
I am in no way perfect and can be equally accused of saying very dumb shit, but I can sleep sound at night knowing there have been dmixes where I have told people to shut up about certain topics.

Intent and context matter. calling your friend ugly and calling a community member controversial slurs aren't even comparable in the slightest, the line is more defined than you think it is. Nobody sensible is asking for on-the-spot bans of any remotely bad behavior, just a system of monitoring and stepping in when it's clearly gone too far. Social media harassment and repeated patterns of behavior are telltale signs that it's no longer a joke but clearly a person who doesn't belong in the community.

Slippery slope fallacy. No one is getting banned for stuff like that.

in that thread there was nothing except cis white kids getting angry because they don't want to be held responsible for being transphobic, sexist or racist
the difference between calling someone a tranny and calling someone ugly is pretty large
or calling someone the hard r and calling someone stupid
making sexual abuse jokes at expense of the victim is also pretty fucked
thats not the type of thread that warrants 500 posts

I think what he's saying is where is the line. Let's stop talking about freedom of speech and shit and actually move this conversation into what is and isn't allowed. Give a rough draft of words you think shouldn't be allowed instead of leaving to the the ambiguity of don't be a dickhead

I don't understand this comment. This thread is meant to shine light upon this issue among other things isn't it? And Pred's one of the people that now has been banned for shit like this, right?

There is no reason for this thread to exist if you actually care about changing the community; we already have had the relevant discussion needed to get community leaders to start changing. All you are going to get now are people attempting to either justify their actions, claiming what they are doing isn't harrassment, and other various vitriol from people.

disagree
this isn't about community leaders needing to change this is a pretty common issue not just limited to TF2
we need to keep talking about this stuff if there is to be real, meaningful, widespread change
