Never got around to reading the Silmarillion, seemed a little too lore heavy for me. Unfinished Tales was a fun ride though.

The bits that are like retellings of myths are kinda boring in the same way more religious stuff is boring, but the bits that read more like an actual epic tale are way better, imo. Haven't really read it since high school, though. Also I'm currently making my way through Sharp Ends by Joe Abercrombie.

translucentfecesI'm reading the Name of the Wind series again because eventually I'll be reading the second book when the release of the third is announced.

I'm planning to restart the Silmarillion in earnest this weekend. The introduction is really beautiful so I always lose steam after reading it.

(Seriously anyone who hasn't read Name of the Wind but is looking for a good book should really consider this one)

Name of the wind series was so fucking good. Only thing I'm sad about is that there's only two books and the third is a long way off. Have you read any Brandon Sanderson? I recently read his stormlight archive series. Prolly one of the best fantasy series i've read in my life. Right now I'm reading Sanderson's mistborn series as well. What is cool is that he connects a lot of his books in a universe called the cosmere. So there will be references and connections across his series that are supposed to eventually all come together.

For anybody looking for good high fantasy books I've found tons from the r/fantasy top lists. also reading Gentleman Bastards by Scott Lynch, not sure what i think about it yet.

One more book I wanted to mention is the three body trilogy by Cixin Liu, craziest sci fi books i've ever read. Take an alien invasion to a hyper realistic level. https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/907ty2/the_rfantasy_2018_top_novels_poll_results/

You should read Auri's book, The Slow Regard of Silent Things. It's basically a weird supplementary novella and it's delightful. The story of how it came to be from Rothfuss is also really lovely.

Read and loved the Mistborn series, I have the first book in the other Sanderson series people talk about - The Way of Kings, I think? - but I haven't really gotten into it.

I'm interested as to where you are in the Gentleman Bastards series - I've only read the first book. The friend who recommended them to me said they get kinda weird/different following that.

I'm only about a hundred pages into the Gentleman Bastards series. Only thing that is turning me off a bit is that I just finished Mistborn and they seem a little similar with the team of scammers. Gonna have to keep reading to see if I like it.

After Gentlemen Bastards I'm contemplating either reading the First Law books, Malazan which I hear is super confusing and dense so not sure about that one, or more Sanderson.

3006Spamfest3006Gabriel Garcia Marquez - Hundred years of solitudMe too! I'm liking it a ton.
Do you use a genealogy tree ? I did one caus at some point it was really confusing.
If you like that kind of writing i'd suggest you
- Juan Rulfo - Pedro Paramo
And any book GGM did, they're all master pieces.

The opening line of 100 Years is one of my favourites in any book ever :)

I just finished Convenience Store Woman by Sakaya Murata, which is a kinda strange but really nice book!

Now reading The Silent Cry by Kenzaburo Oe.

Definitely read The First Law. Joe Abercrombie is one of my favorite fantasy authors. I liked the first Gentleman Bastards book, but I don't particularly care for either of the sequels.

OMG I LOVE BRANDON SANDERSON AND PAT ROTHFUSS!! I've been through all of Sanderson's books related to the Cosmere. Also been through all of The King Killer Chronicles. Right now I'm on book 5 of The Wheel Of Time, by Robert Jordan, and Brandon Sanderson (he finished the last 2 books after Jordan died). Wheel Of Time is an amazing series so far.

Knowledge and Decisions by Thomas Sowell
Emma by Jane Austen
The Second World War: Volume 3 by Sir Winston Churchill (I've been plodding through this one off and on for several years)

Not sure what'll be next. Probably a book on law or mathematics.

Currently half way through the old man and the sea
After this one my mum bought 12 rules for life so ill probably read that too
Also just picked up la belle sauvage and im very excited about it cause the his dark materials trilogy is the first thing that i read that really had an impact on me
Ive also got a clockwork orange on the shelf at home but i got through 11 pages and the language is honestly worse than being in mumble with 7 brits

ahh i finished that one recently too! i loved the beginning but the last 1/3 of the book was just confusing for me hah

rn i'm reading radium girls by kate moore, it's from the point of view of the girls who were employed to paint watch faces with radium. they were told it wasn't dangerous so they would sharpen the tip of their paintbrushes with their mouth which ended up giving them radium poisoning. it's pretty horrifying since it's all based on real people, but i haven't been able to put it down

Not a book, but The All Guardsmen Party is one of the best Warhammer 40k stories I read. It's originally someone saying what happened during their game of Only War, but it's told from the characters PoV. It's fun and creative in a unique way, and i recommend it a lot (currently re-reading it for the 4th time).
