wafflebI'm really struggling to understand why a small bit of aim assist is detrimental to a game where you are using a peripheral inferior to a keyboard/mouse
it destroys the purpose of using a controller to aim at people if you have something already doing it for you. it's like NASCAR with an auto-pilot.

because the inferiority of the peripherals is negated by the fact that they all have to collectively be using the same said peripherals, hence, no aim assist means higher skill cap.

Its just part of the mechanics of the game itself. You can still be better or worse at aiming. There's not a limit to how skilled you can be or whatever, same shit as with a mouse
Also, if the aim assist is so helpful and skill destroying then how are people missing shots? Surely, if that was true, it would just seem that everyone is aimbotting (which is obviously not true)
I cant help but get the feeling that most of you saying this shit haven't even tried the game itself

i wouldnt compare it to CS when the guns in cod look like they have 0 recoil

Controllers work fine when playing CoD because weapon damage is so high and player health is so low. Simply dragging your cursor over an enemy player while spraying bullets will get you a kill so there's no need for any real precise aiming. Plus aim assist automatically compensates and makes aiming even easier. And don't forget that ads while looking in the rough direction of an enemy will automatically zoom the sights in onto the head of the enemy player.
All this combines into a game that is very boring and unimpressive to watch compared to something like CPMA, Adrenaline Gamer, TF2, UT, or CS.

Oh wait, people don't play engineer, the game plays engineer for them.

There is so much wrong with what you said that I don't even know where to start
but in regards to the game being boring or unimpressive, I mean, I know I don't enjoy watching dota and I certainly don't find it impressive. Yet I can acknowledge the skill in the game and i would probably appreciate impressive moments a lot more if I was a dota player. It goes for every game. If you took some person off of the street and showed them some good street fighter plays I guarantee they wouldn't see what was impressive about it, but surely a competitive SF player would.

Assist =/= infallible
I can assist you in learning how to do something, but it's still on you to perform it, all I'm doing is helping you and increasing your chances.
You should of checked the meaning of that before you made that comment, you can stop talking now.

this is like complaining that people in the paralympics get to use simple machines for body parts.
I think competitive console shooters are silly too, but you have to realize that the aim assist makes it equally assisted/difficult for all of them..
it's like that one basketball league for short people with all the trampolines.

Honestly, I agree with most of the things waffleb said, but I do agree that aim assist should be banned from league play. I went over to a friends house yesterday and played some Black Ops 2 on his xbox, and i had a 1:2 ratio. This might not be too impressive, but I rarely touch a controller, maybe once every two months. But, I would never join the competitive cod scene because of how many assholes there are. I only played for maybe a few hours total but I heard so much shit talking by little kids I was amazed. I thought that all the rumors about cod having a fan base of 12 year olds was false, but apparently its 100% true.

I liked cod up to 4, after that each one is basically the same thing over and over again. As a competitive game I'm not sure what to think about it, I understand that it takes skill to get to the level of some of the pros, but there are a few problems.
1. Controller: doesn't allow twitch shots, which is sort of stupid considering its a competitive fps
2. Shitty community: I love the tf2 community, it is one of the nicest competitve game communities I know. This was one of the main appeals to tf2 for me.
3. aim assist: It doesn't give you too much of an advantage, but it's still there. Sometimes you would miss a shot, but with aim assist you wouldn't.
4. Have to buy new game every time its released: honestly this is the biggest factor for me. TF2 and CS are good comp games because you might have to buy a new version every 6-7 years, and people would still play the older game competitively. With COD I'm not willing to put down 60 bucks every time it comes out.

unno why people shit on cod so much, there's def worse games out there atm
i think it's a fun series
i dont think its close to being above average when it comes to fps but black ops 2 is a cool pickup and play game.

It's pretty fun to pickup and play, but is it really necessary to have to release the same thing every time? Adding new weapons and maps every time? When they could just make it into updates really, or their DLCs.
Also I still hear some people say that the graphics are "better" but isn't it a console? Which has hardware? Which limits the max graphics right? I think it'd be understandable if the graphics got better on the PC.

It's about growing esports as a whole, not everyone enjoying every game. Any time developers get behind the competitive side of their game, it's a very very good thing.

ya because theres definitely no way an inferior game with a lower skill cap could EVER have more money in it/followers than a superior game
hello league of legends
a huge part of it is how its publisher has built its fanbase/how much money it is willing to blindly throw at the game
have you ever talked to cod players?
its incredible, every single one i talk to thinks he/she is amazing at the game
i dont understand how its possible
