Regarding anyone running Windows 10 on their device
The NSA has released an official, public statement urging everyone to update their Windows devices as soon as possible. An exploit has been identified in the current version of Windows 10 that can allow malicious software to be automatically installed on your computer, under the guise of approved Windows updates.

This means that very soon, hackers will be developing tools to be able to take control of and install malicious software to over 900 million PCs worldwide, with little to nothing that can be done to stop or remove the infected software due to the system believing it is from an approved Windows Update.

The NSA and US Department of Defense urges everyone on Windows 10 to update their computer IMMEDIATELY, as a fix for the exploit has already been released. Again, failing to update now will put your machine at extreme risk in the future.

To update, click the windows logo in the bottom left, click the cog, go to "update and security" and press "check for updates."

Links to the OFFICIAL NSA statement and a detailed news report are included below for you to read.

How do you prevent windows from forcing you to update? Windows literally wakes me up in the middle of my sleep with my loud ass computer to update. No matter what I change in services or what have you it resets the settings to default.

Windows Education is free with university ID, doesn't have bloatware and you can disable updates. LTSC is only meant for enterprise and omits all QoL updates.

You can change your local group policy to only ask you to update when updates are available without forcing. You should still patch your system regularly as there seems to be a gigantic issue disclosed every patch tuesday nowadays.

Additionally just to address something else - it's incredibly foolish to use an out-of-support OS, not just because you won't receive security patches but because Microsoft no longer need to acknowledge any issue with Windows 7 if they choose not to, meaning you may be unaware of certain exploits even if you attempt to keep yourself in the loop.

if you dont download random exes and dont go to doubtful webs, youre good
i mean if some really good "hacker" targets you, you cant do shit regardless what you use
these basic fixes are against avoidable script kiddies

Coming from someone who works in this industry, you're mistaken. Near-invisible RCE is entirely achievable from a user just visiting a web page through certain exploits. You wouldn't even need to consciously click dodgy links for this as its fairly common for known good sites to have their downloads silently compromised.
