So all the guys complaining that cheaters aren't banned as long gonna be okay picking someone up for their team that was banned for using cheats?

I think the ban being so long that it's effectively permanent is kind of the point. Maybe given the right approach they could get the ban lifted but the way they argued with the ugc admins effectively shows that they don't actually care about the morality at all.

MisterDannyI feel like what Little Nyar said was definitely out of order and shouldn't go unpunished but 5 years? Kid could still be young and made only one stupid comment, if he feels sorry about it I dont see a reason to keep him out of the league for 5 times longer than a cheater.

In cases like these you should be able to redeem yourself somehow and be put onto like a "trial" period where admins pay special attention to you and just ban you for life if you continue shitty conduct like this.

nyar indirectly claims to be an adult.

zxpWhat's screenshot abuse

i'm the author of the screenshot that's being passed around, but rest assured that before nyar was banned an etf2l admin asked me for an invite to the discord this happened in to ensure no screenshot manipulation happened.
fwiw I didn't even have to report her, I posted the screenshot on her recruitment post, admins took interest on their own lmao

HrblsAs far as I'm aware the only previous 5-year ban was for Clootie who was caught DDOSing/attempting to DDOS an ETF2L player; when confronted Clootie showed no remorse and in the face of insurmountable evidence denied the allegations (I seem to recall he was resolved to do it again). The 5-year ban effectively made an example out of him, back when multiple players/games were being targetted by DDOS attacks, DDOSing would ABSOLUTELY not be tolerated.

I hope that this ban will have been internally discussed and debated, with admins taking into account their own emotional bias. Ban lengths are complicated; there is no equation for working out how long a player should be banned, and the court of public opinion is always going to debate the length. I have always been a champion for the admins, it is a continually thankless role and it is easy to forget that these volunteers are human too, making what they believe to be the best decisions with the resources they have; they can act emotionally and are justified to be upset by the crass words of an immature player. The loss of a friend is an incredibly difficult thing to process, I hope everyone is giving themselves the time they need to mourn.

I don't think anyone will/should/can defend the words of Little Nyar, I do however believe that people can mature and learn from their mistakes and a 5-year ban does not leave any room to do that, as others have said it is effectively permanent forced extradition from our community. Perhaps Little Nyar can reflect on their actions, write an apology to the community and then the ETF2L admins can review what appears to be a very harsh punishment. Regardless and if the ban stands, it will be good for Little Nyar to internally reflect and understand that although we are an online community we are a part of the real world and therefore subject to the consequences of our actions.

just like you described with clootie, when confronted by me and gibz, nyar showed absolutely zero remorse (as usual but that's besides the point), and the """apology""" posted in this thread does not feel in character, so I personally agree with the ban's length, but might be biased

LittleNyarI want to apologize for what I wrote. I am still very young and I don't think I fully understood how close people were to someone online and I didn't think through what I said. After processing things I understand that this wasn't "just a joke" and I am really sorry for the hurt I caused. I really have no excuse, though upon reflecting on my behavior I now realize I was not entirely understanding what I was saying and I was lashing out because of problems in life and being unsure whether I would have a place to live.

I am not sure if you knew this when you made your decision but the comment I made was on a very small discord server. Immediately after making the comment I was banned (understandably) and I had no chance to remove it or apologise for what I said. After this the comment what I wrote was then spread around and I had to deal with people who used to harassed me (which tbh happens regularly as an underaged girl on TF2). It was placed on my recruitment post. People I didn't know added me threatening to show it to the ETF2L admins. I had no way to take back what I said while also dealing with people who wanted to upset me or take advantage of my inexperience. At the time I chose not to do anything as I didn't know what the right thing to do was.

I understand that he was your friend and I am sorry that for upsetting you with what I wrote but I hope you understand they were private messages that I regret and reconsider the length of time I am banned for.

I am sorry for any hurt I caused,
Little Nyar

poor poor "underaged girl" that also claims to be in a relationship with "an older man" while also simultaneously egirling to high profile players and also throwing her team's matches by purposefully localmuting combo players and dropping them during ubers
it's unreal how much you victimize yourself with absolutely zero awareness of how much of it is your own fault.. that, or you have full awareness of it and are seeking empathy that you really don't deserve.

I want everyone to pay close attention to this quote.
even when showing remorse or trying to apologize for what was said, there are still people who don't think it's enough, what else do you expect a person who said something wrong to do?

but rest assured that before nyar was banned an etf2l admin asked me for an invite to the discord this happened in to ensure no screenshot manipulation happened.

This is what worries me, ETF2L admins actively chasing people that they find saying offensive things outside their league, where does it end? where is the line drawn in what we can say privately to each other without the fear that someone might take a screenshot and use it against the player whenever he pleases.

ETF2L are setting a dangerous precedent here, going beyond their bounds as a league & forums, actively banning people for anything they find offensive, and now that they handed a 5 year ban, whats stopping them from going around handing more bans like these to anyone they find offending them?

I really am curious to know ETF2L's explanation on this decision, on why VAC banned cheaters are only banned for 1 year while offensive language can get you banned for 5 and on where they draw the line when they are actively trying to punish people for speaking offensively?

I've contacted several ETF2L admins already and so far only 1 admin responded (Head AC admin - Amaterasu) in this thread and didn't even acknowledge the topic.
Can it really be this way? a community run league not even bothering trying to explain their controversial decisions?

it's unreal how much you victimize yourself with absolutely zero awareness of how much of it is your own fault.. that, or you have full awareness of it and are seeking empathy that you really don't deserve.

This entire post just sums up everything I have against this ban.

It is obvious those screenshots were not shared around out of a genuine desire to protect Jan's memory. It was just someone who is obsessed with a girl and wanted to 'punish' her. Heck just look through this thread at the weird obsession about what gender the girl is to see what people can be like.

You can't police things that are said in private without relying on other people. Which leaves you open to terrible amounts of bias. For example in this case where on the exact same discord channel someone said something much worse ('nothing of value lost') about Jan after his death but there was no punishment. There was even an ETF2L admin reacting to jokes about Jan's death and doing nothing but later being involved in Nyars ban over comments that are significantly less inflammatory.

I would argue the ban and the reaction it it has damaged Jan's memory far more than what some kid wrote on a small teams discord channel. Honestly the whole thing is a bit of a joke.

didn't Habib get vacced back in the day for cheating on trade servers or something?

JackyLegsETF2L are setting a dangerous precedent here, going beyond their bounds as a league & forums, actively banning people for anything they find offensive

whats stopping them from going around handing more bans like these to anyone they find offending them?
 • ETF2L are an independent organisation made up of volunteers that work for free, they can do whatever they want with their service. They can refuse to work for free for anyone.
 • ETF2L staff moderate a community that is bigger than themselves, excluding people from that community isn't their decision.

The ETF2L staff have to work around these two conflicting ideals to make decisions best for the league and the community. If they only picked one of these in every case ETF2L wouldn't likely be the main European league. One case doesn't necessarily mean that the ETF2L admins are "out of line" or going to make these sorts of decisions in every case.

Also if you're gonna say something that shit about a person you can't be surprised when their friends want nothing to do with you.

dempseycan't really expect an anti cheat admin to comment on the logistics of league bans to be fair

You're right it's not her duty as an AC admin, but when I see the word "admin" it wouldn't be unreasonable to just say literally anything about the case, especially since none of her colleagues have said a word since the ban happened. And according to Jackylegs they pretty much ignored him.
Instead, all I've seen so far (on TF.tv and ETF2L) is replies that have either fuck all to do with this particular ban or are complaints that people spread misinformation, which in both cases doesn't satisfy me, because I also think 5 years it too much.

They are the admins and they decide how long someone is banned and I respect what they do. But at this point it's left so many people confused that a little explanation for their actions wouldn't be out of place. It's almost been 2 weeks since the ban post. Speak up ETF2L!
can't really expect an anti cheat admin to comment on the logistics of league bans to be fair

I am sorry for any hurt I caused,
Little Nyar
