#67 Coolest Alias in TF2 in Off Topic

Dummy... B/c it is the most accurate name. Whether you want to say it's because he is dumb as bricks, or because his play style is a lifeless shell in literal need of a guiding hand to prop him up and stop him falling limp and lifeless under his own dead weight, there is no better named player.

I've won the last 9 DH games. Went 60% in on NiP. Riskiest bet yet, but I think they have everything clicking, and they strike me as a true LAN built team. Also, they have my fav players.

How do people get away with this shit?

http://gfycat.com/CriminalBriskBallpython

Maybe he cheats, probably not, but I stopped reading when that OP started his argument for Olof's aim toggle with an accidental shot on his teammate, citing such evidence as "looks like hacks because it's out of character to not be coordinated."

Olof is holding the closet, eyes trained on a few pixels ready to shoot at anything the instant their pixels come into frame... the closet guy moved 3 feet, clearly didn't clutter the comms with his movement, and there is no sense in watching radar when you're trained on a corner to shoot at an instant. Why does "out of character = aim toggle" make more sense than "not communicating this situation = out of character?" It doesn't. If anything, that first clip is evidence that Olof didn't/doesn't toggle, as he seemed to mash fire on the first thing he saw, implying he was trying really hard to be as fast as humanly possible, implying he doesn't have inhuman advantages. He also didn't kill his teammate (which might have been actual evidence of an aim toggle getting stuck as the OP claims).

Don't join the witchhunt, boys and girls. It's always easy to comb through clips and find evidence of someone cheating. That's because cheats emmulate the skills we try to perfect. Don't confuse the effort to play perfectly, or the random times when someone acts strangely as proof of a cheat. I was accused of cheating many years ago sniping in TFC due to a nonsensical, unconventional, "why is he doing that", but extremely effective method of play. I wasn't cheating, but with a wallhack mod on it sure looked like I was. A lot seems fishy when the wallhack mod is on. Dont believe anything that isn't some random committal to killing a target the questionable player ought not have any reason to suspect was there. Those are the only types of clips worth looking at, and even then it's hard to find air-tight evidence that something else didn't clue the player in. You would need a trend of those weird situations happening consistently with the same player, and they would have to show definitive knowledge or intent that otherwise cannot be justified.

#5 Hiding Non-TF2 Streams in Site Discussion

Personally, I think it is fine the way it is.

If it irks a lot of people, a nice compromise could be to take the TF2 dropdown category and replace it with "Live Streams" as the feature list when you visit the site. However, I think it is necessary, as mentioned, to designate what currently shows in the "Live Streams" feature with it's own category. Something like "Popular Streamers," "TF2[or Community] Personalities," etc...

#59 Overwatch (Blizzard Game) in Other Games

While the whole skill discussion is quite relevant to us here, I think perhaps the bigger implication is how successful this game will be at drawing away TF2's casual community. Notoriosuly unininterested in things like aim, movement, and balance; the hero and ultimate system will likely have a huge appeal to those players who simply want to role-play DM with their favorite character. It'll also be the new "hotness" at first, and if it is at all successful at alesst fulfilling that desire to run around as your favorite hero and generally be rewarded with killing things, TF2 ought to be worried.

Our game is old and—like it or not—a pub-based phenemomon whose seemingly only relevant factor in the eyes of its developer (I conjecture) is the money it rakes in on digital cosmetics. If the pub community goes, and Valve continues its laissez faire approach to the comp community, Overwatch could be the final spear in TF2's side.

Or it'll be bad.
Or Valve will develop a way to make TF2 clearly superior

#17 5v5 AR in TF2 General Discussion

When I first heard the name "Arena Respawn" I thought it would be like dodgeball. I imagined a KOTH style timer for both teams at something small like 25-30 seconds. I figured when the cap was neutral there were no respawns, and that capping a point would spawn the first player from the capping team to have been put in the death queue. From there the 30 second timer would count down for the team in possession of the point. All kills, for either team, would now also release a player from the death queue.

So if blue had 5 members and the point, and red had only 1 . . . that 1 guy would have to be a hero and find a way to get a kill and get one of his teammates back in the game to help stop blue's timer from reaching 0. That could be very exciting. Similarly, if blue somehow capped with 2 alive, and red were left with 3, blue would gain a spawner upon capping, and it would be a 3v3 KOTH situation where every kill would snowball into an additional player on the team getting the kills.

That would create all sorts of meta around when to cap, when to kill, what class to spawn as in order to best support your teammate at that moment, and when to give up the point so as to not die and let the other players spawn a new teammate.

It would be a tug-o-war of not just the cap point, but also the player count. First to kill their clock or wipe the other team would win the round.

Of course then I read and found out this was nothing like what I imagined. It still sounds really cool though. :D

#31 Spy Wrangling in TF2 General Discussion

When they first made it so ammo gave cloak time, I would go into pubs and see how long I could sit on an enemy dispenser yelling "spy over hear" in an engi voice before being spotted by the engi. That was fun.

#81 TF2 Update - 8.27.14 in TF2 General Discussion

People might agree with you, Codo, but your attitude is ridiculous. Was jumping worse than second shotting? Maybe it was, maybe it was just as dumb. The real tragedy here is not being able to dodge spam.

#74 TF2 Update - 8.27.14 in TF2 General Discussion

LOL

I'm not too upset about this. The jump spam was very hokey and boring. It did however alleviate the "you shoot. "no, you shoot..." "no, you shoot!" "I'm gonna shoot...jk, you shoot!!" scope wars that became the main counter-snipe technique after quick switching was removed. All this does is reinstitute that, not the best thing, but whatever. I always found the jump strat to be annoying, it basically just encouraged snipers to keep unleashing shots until one of them happened to be aimed correctly. There will be a bit more conciousness to when snipers take shots now, and that at least is good...but it is a straight nerf versus other classes when jumping after a shot could help you surf a rocket or ride a scatter hit.

A smart companion update to go along with this would have been rolling back the 200ms penalty before being able to headshot a target. That would have further emphasized snipers aim their shot before firing. As it is, you can line up a perfect shot, zoom and shoot at exactly the same time and not be awarded a headshot because of the 200ms wait time. That is bad, espescially when you keep removing the ways a sniper can dodge after taking his shot.

What would have been best was actually buffing the classic to a point to where it was useable. VALVE, come talk to me. We can make snipers balanced and useful in TF2 with just a few tweaks to The Classic...
