Gunboats Pocket

It is entirely dependent on the situation.
Full time gunboats can lower your damage output and make solo ubers weak, however, solo ubers are becoming less common since pocket scouts are becoming more common. Almost all middles are playable with gunboats since soldiers are usually distractions and meat shields. Perhaps granary is a solid exception to that rule.
In general though, it would seem that shotgun is the "maybe" for the current meta.

A free league (a la UGC) has never given NA the same results for competition as ESEA. As mentioned before, CEVO is likely to not pick us up. While this client issue has evidently driven some people mad, Rick had the most sane post of any person in this thread.
If you're seriously concerned about backdoors and the like, unplug your router, turn off your computer and throw it out the window. There are plenty of ways into your PC that are also always running. We do not have a second league that we can rely on for high level competition, and ESEA has some serious legal bindings from their previous fiasco (none of tf2 was affected by it btw, absolutely none of us were.)
This is idiotic and untrue, first of all unless you install something to allow remote access and leave it unprotected and then port map it so the entire internet is able to get to it you're pretty unlikely to get hacked and backdoored. Even if you did it requires effort on the part of the attacker finding a way into your shit or luring you into a site and you letting your browser run whatever code. The difference is: with people running exploits on the internet, they generally aren't getting you to pay them for the privilege of running their code while laughing at the stockholm syndrome of their "users" as they make up bullshit to justify it to themselves.
So, where's your backup that we're all gonna get backdoor'd and hacked?
I'm not seeing that at all. You're simply reinforcing the fact that it's REALLY not gonna be a big deal. Puu.sh legitimately had a day 0 attack and not a damn motherfucker gives a shit anymore. You PAY for the anti-cheat and pug service of the program. You do not pay for somebody exploiting it. You PAY for the ability to play in a league that requires the subscription fee. You do not pay for the download.

you can't really risk a leak even if it's less than 0.01% of a chance of that happening, especially when working with confidential data
Keep in mind it doesn't necessarily have to be ESEA doing the wrong doing. Installing the client opens a backdoor the could be potentially exploited by a 3rd party.
Dropbox also has a backdoor that can be abused. If the product is abused and is found to be the cause, it is at the liability of the company iirc.
