#34 Sauna slayers about to get disqualified?? in TF2 General Discussion
shorasWell your point was that logs can be faked. Who in the universe would fake logs of a streamed game?

I don't know, the same person who suggests using them to validate the result of a streamed game?

shorasYou can fake screenshots as well.

Did someone say they couldn't? The context was Hildreth pointing out that for the etf2l finals an admin might actually bother watching them, and as such insisting on a screenshot would probably be a waste of time. Positing using logs.tf as a way to validate the prem final over screenshots is ludicrous. Pointing out an admin might bother watching them is not.

shorasAlso logs.tf exist. They don't only show the score and the map, but also exact date and time. Pretty sure there was a thread on that.

Easy to fake

#97 Lowpander wins high. in TF2 General Discussion
HildrethOne year ago these unlocks were not allowed that strengthen classes like Heavy/Engineer, so it would not have worked as well. I remember when Mini sentries got banned because Schocky started using them in 6's on certain maps for ButtonBashers back in like Season 8 or 9 or something, rather than learn to play with it then all the Prem players got tilted and pressured admin team to ban it. No doubt this may happen again, but you really take away from the game doing this, I think maybe the unpopular lesson here is to accept the metagame can change and there is more viability to run certain strategies around "off-classes" thanks to the whitlelist strengthening certain classes. I am sure teams will learn to counter us better, but we will learn to counter their counters.

For the record the top teams would have beaten us one year ago even if we ran a roamer, because you know, they're THE BEST teams with THE BEST players. If we play Crowns pre-game for their Grand Final warmup (this is an invitation to pcw us btw) they will most likely stuff us 5-0 like they have a lot of teams, whether we ran a Roamer or a Flex.

I think I have failed to explain my point because you are not an unintelligent man but it's not worth trying again. Well done on winning high. I don't think it was surprising.

bubblebobblerScrambledI think the big thing that a lot of people are missing here, is that lowpander are playing for fun. It's not like muuki isn't a perfectly capable soldier or anything.
and unless people think highpander are sandbagging (which is a fair thing to think I guess, it's not like they knew they'd be capable for prem with a full time offclasser at the start of the season though imo), it's not like they're 'griefing'. They still played seriously and came up with strats for a particular style

I dunno though I still think hildreth got carried

Pretty sure given the current state of the game that's a prem team (easy to say now obviously...), running some offclasses versus the roamer isn't that big a handicap. Probably wouldn't have worked out a year ago

#84 Would you play an MGE Tournament with a prizepool? in TF2 General Discussion
ContraUnderstand, the idea of this tournament isn't just to appeal to TFTV, the seasoned 6s players. It needs to appeal to the TF2 audience at large, and spectating first-to-20, Scout/Soldier-only MGE accomplishes neither my goal to appeal to that audience or my goal to show people just how much of a spectacle TF2's 1-on-1s are capable of being.

Think you're probably aiming a bit high here. The depth of MGE is severely cut down because of it's training mod background, 1v1 high skill is Quake in a custom made arena and many weapons and items that allows lots of deep strategy. Your suggestions don't feel like they'd bridge the gap, just make it sort of gimmicky, although you're right that it probably needs something extra. Niche classes like Pyro would produce really derpy matches though, not sure I'd consider that good viewing.

SpaceCadetThe problem with MGE ELO is that people have farmed it for some unknown reason and the values are not accurate.

Yeah it's flawed data but it's probably not too bad for broad classification as long as it's not taken too seriously.

Regardless you don't need it for a Swiss system. By about half way through you're playing people at your level so with a 32 man field the most suffering would be a couple of games then it should be fairly competitive for everybody. You could run 5 rounds with 32 players to get an outright winner or use it to select a playoff field for a knockout at the end.

SpaceCadetIt's not possible to use a Swiss system, nor would it even be worth the time if it were available.

It is 100% possible, available and suitable - it's what it was designed for. If you're paying you get your money's worth, you're guaranteed some competitive games against people at your level, and you get the chance to play the best. You can always drop out if you get bored. A classic win - win in my view.

Also the point of seeding is to give an advantage to the best players and put them against the weakest. The point of it is to design the tournament so that the 2 highest seeds meet in the final. You never randomly seed people, they're not seeds, they're just random matches.

Antaresso basically give b4nny more free money?

B4nny would lose handily to a DM donkey, the kind of player who pushes on 9 health but spends all day on MGE servers.

SpaceCadetYou are basically answering your own example question. Djokovic qualifies for those tournaments because he maintains a world ranking that allows him to automatically qualify. He is regularly playing and winning matches. If a 1v1 tournament had a similar "regular season" or divisional standings of some sort then seeding and BYE's would be justified.

Secondly, there is a huge difference in comparing a tournament like this to say something like the FaceIT tournament this weekend. I don't have any problems with the FaceIT admins issuing seeds as they see fit based off what teams Slin and other admins feel are "strong" or "weak". The reason I have no problem with that is because nobody is paying to compete in that FaceIT tournament.

I don't care if you are talking about b4nny, some UGC Iron player, an MGE lord or an MGE shitter like myself. An entry fee for each of those players is still the exact same. If those other players are getting some bonus perks for their $5, I want the same thing if I am expected to compete for cash.

MGE servers are crammed with rankings from people who play it every day.

Would you accept a Swiss system?

If there aren't at least a handful of mge lords out there who can whip him I'll wear my underpants for week of vigorous exercise then eat them

SpaceCadetSorry but this makes no sense to me at all. If someone is going to put up money to play in a tournament, why would you give the ""very strong players" an additional edge? All players, strong and weak, pay the same money to compete in the tournament, they should both have to win an equal amount of matches to advance.

To ensure players have a decent chance of getting some matches for their money obviously. There are numerous sporting precedent for this in esports and normal sports, open qualifiers into the seeded section are a regular occurrence. Nobody thinks Novak Djokovic should have to play people ranked 587 in the world rankings to qualify for the US Open. He's in already because he's proven to be an elite Tennis player.

If someone has played MGE often enough to get a reputation then if there's an MGE tournament there's no reason it shouldn't be recognised because a) they've already earned it and b) it means that if you run a tournament 2.0 you might get some people who were weak the first time signing up the 2nd time instead of having paid their money and having had a horrible experience for 5 minutes.

A serious alternative suggestion might be a group stage.

In case you hadn't noticed TF2 cup series in general fail continuously because people get sick of being destroyed in the first round when they had no chance. Cup organisers fail to account for this repeatedly so platforms like Razer, who were all for supporting us to begin with, die through lack of numbers.

Is he known for being particularly good at MGE?

Give strong players byes into later rounds. Maybe stagger that so the first round or even 2 is open, then bring in mid tier MGE players for 1 or two more rounds, then bring in the final group of very strong players. Depends on how many rounds you expect to have, but at least that gives weaker players the potential to have a couple of decent games without being crushed by an MGE god in round 1.
