Pretty sure if you play at a lower resolution it makes the ingame cross crosshair look like that.

PhaserThe older Asus G53 series would be a good fit. You would have to buy used at this point, but you can get them on ebay for around 600-700. i7 processors, 6GB memory, 15' screen (there is a 120hz model as well), Geforce 460m gtx cards...dota 2 should run fine on that. Mine had pretty decent battery life if i remember correctly.
If he wants to buy new, look into the Sager NP7358, they start around $1000 and you can customize further past that if necessary. 15' screen, latest gen i7, 800m series graphics card, and these are supposed to average over 2 hours on battery...which is pretty impressive considering the hardware it's running.
Yeah I think he wants to buy new. I don't think 2 hours of battery life would be enough for him though. We were looking at a laptop with around 3 hours of battery life and he said it was too little.
Yeah we were looking at the Y510P and its specs look pretty great. Just curious as to if there are any other really good laptops for the money, especially if he could go to a nearby store (TigerDirect, Canada Computers, Future Shop, etc.) and buy it instead of buying it online. I can't find any retailer that has the Y510P for a good price.
My friend at school is looking to buy a laptop to last him through university. He has a budget of around $1000 and is planning on using it for note taking, studying, and gaming (the games will not be too intensive, eg. Dota 2). He says that screen size (around 15"-16") is important and a decent battery life is a big plus. If you guys have suggestions then they would be appreciated. Thanks!
Everyone is so oblivious
AloSec is hilarious and ridiculously fun to play with and be around. His gamesense is really solid and his DM is good enough for highish open.
