Virtualdub slow?
well sure if you use whatever cccp/klite codec packs gives you as VFW encoders. Setting virtualdub to use external encoders is a bit of a hassle but you can utilize the latest version of x264, your choice of audio, and muxer. It is bound to be faster as long as it is configured properly.
Just saying. Not trying to imply converting TGA + audio to video format is a faster method than directly capturing video.
SourceNick i highly suggest using lagarith lossless encoder.
I'd rather recommend MagicYUV (https://www.magicyuv.com/) or UTvideo (http://umezawa.dyndns.info/archive/utvideo/). Lagarith is a slow lossless encoder. UTvideo is fastest of the bunch. MagicYUV apparently can record in 16bit.

Use a different application to limit FPS.
I've been using the framerate limiter built into RivaTuner Statistics Server provided with MSI afterburner software.
AMD's new crimson driver has a frame limiter as well.

Thank you povohat, the driver has come a long way.
UI is very intuitive and functional. Great addition to the program. Tooltips are a huge help, now I don't have to keep Notepadd++ open with the readme.
No longer requiring test mode is another fav.

Just about70UGC players were Vac'd today. I don't think that's ever
happened in the history of UGC.
I'm highly skeptical that all or even most of those players were actually
cheating as normally 15 getting caught by either VAC or by the League
itself over the course of a season (12 weeks) is considered a high amount.
