I guess I didn't really show up this week because after donating a server for the rush, getting told I wasn't allowed to coach because I "wasn't good enough" really turned me off of the idea.

Laptop hard drives are far more prone to mechanical failure than desktop grade ones, simply because they're smaller (and therefor more fragile) and they tend to get bumped around quite a bit, being in a laptop and all.
Unless you did something drastic to it, there's not really much you can do. SSDs are perfect for laptops for this very reason, since there's no risk of mechanical failure.
How old was the laptop? How often did you use it?
omnificIf helping new players get into competitive as you whine about the game dying is too much of a burden for you, just take a fucking break god damn
I think one of the biggest issues right now isn't that they're new, but that they either have shit connections or sign up for lobbies in other regions. Region lock is helpful, but not enough. We can't help new players if they're dropping from lobbies, or not using mics, or not listening to advice.

guyystAfter fiddling around with it a little bit I got this working on Windows 10 Technical Preview so I guess it's gonna work on 8 as well, considering that the tutorial wasn't for 10.
Though aside from the (imo)overall worse look, which is the result of removing DWM, there are quite a few bugs, at least on Windows 10.
I mean this technically works, but I'd much rather like an actual fix of how DWM handles multiple displays :/
Well, the guide did mention quite a few bugs even on 8, including a broken login screen. Either way, it's a workaround, but I'm glad it actually does work. This is really promising.
DemoTheMannThanks for the help. The worst thing about it is that when I was playing lobbies I was thinking that doing 6v6 things i bad xD welp, thanks one more time
Generally, you're going to want to play a little more passively in HL than you would in 6v6, but other than that, it's mostly the same. Just remember that a lot of classes in HL are unable to deal with stickies on the ground, so you should also be trying to deny players from walking in certain areas. Also, in payload, you'll need to play as more of a siege class on offense, sticking with your combo and taking the uber in to destroy sentries. On defense, you'd want to defend sentries, providing area denial and trying to juggle the enemy combo when they uber in.
only complaint is the new alley fence looks ugly as fuck. Try grabbing a fence from the border of yard, so the tileset fits.
Might also want to put some kind of ammo pack in that new room on C, which would incentivize actual play there. Engies holding C always have trouble with dispenser placement because there's very little metal up there. Plus, putting a pack in that new room would help the offense if they're trying to push through there.
ScrewballThere is a thread on Overclock.net on disabling DWM in windows 8.1 http://www.overclock.net/t/1441921/windows-8-1-no-dwm-aka-aero-aka-desktop-composition
I run fullscreen so i never bothered myself.
This is the first I've heard of this.
Could you try this method out, tagg?
ScrewballI have window animations turned off.

That's not what I'm getting at. I was trying to point out that disabling DWM disables animations. You can disable animations with DWM still on.
We need to disable DWM in order to fix this bug. Aero Lite in Win8 does not disable DWM.
