That looks good setsul, thanks for the advice. I'll take a closer look at case options.
Hi, I'm considering buying a pc. I have a budget of $1200 canadian / 925 USD. However my goal is to be able to get 144 fps or better consistently as I want to buy a 144hz monitor later so if it's not possible with the budget I'll just stick with what I have for now. All I plan to do is play comp tf2 and I use a config
edit: I was given this build by a friend which includes the 144hz monitor: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/smessy/saved/syxD8d Supposedly this should give 144+fps? What do you think

Yes.
Do you need a case?
Other than that cheaper mobo, faster RAM, should mention that the Seagate Barracuda (ST1000DM010) is slightly faster, cheaper GPU, cheaper PSU, added an SSD.
You could go for a slightly cheaper SSD or monitor to stay within budget or go SSD only if 250GB are enough.

what monitor would you recommend? I don't know much about them but I assume as long as it's 144hz it's good enough?
edit: also as it turns out I do need a case, I thought I had one from an old computer but I actually don't. It's fine that it's going over budget though as I intended the budget to be 1200 for the pc itself, not for the pc + monitor so if I'll actually get consistent 144 fps with $1300, monitor included this is actually really good news

Case is mostly preference so anything with an even remotely sensible layout, dust filters and ideally at least 2 fans should be fine.
The XFA240 is a bit cheaper and better iirc. Since it supports FreeSync you could get an AMD GPU if you want to be able to use it.
The RX 570 is even more overkill just for TF2 but so was the 1050 Ti. RX 560 (or even 550) would be fine if you're really not going to play anything else.
I haven't asked but I'm assuming you will be overclocking the 8350K?

Yes I'm okay with over clocking.
How significant are the performance differences between the Rx 570 / 560 / 550? I do only really care about tf2 but if the 570 would be significantly better than the other two I wouldn't mind spending this much

It wouldn't change a thing, it's TF2. You could pay 7 chinese guys chinese minimum wage to do the calculations by hand.
Unless the config you use is a max quality/movie config.

Guess I'll go with the 550 then. This is all correct?

One concern I have is that to all my friends that I messaged who are decently knowledgeable about pc building, they all mentioned that overclocking the 8350k would be a bad idea and I'd probably need a different psu and case than the one you gave me. One friend suggested this partlist, do you think this would be better if I go a non-overclock route?

Why would you need a different PSU and case?
Why is overclocking the 8350K a bad idea?
The 8600 is slower in TF2 than an overclocked 8350K and more expensive.

hello, prob the last time i post here before i have the cash to buy parts, mostly looking for 2nd opinions and possibly warn me about oversights i might've made
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pLnCw6
ik the 1060 is overkill for tf2 ONLY but i mostly plan to play other games for a while, also the 650w psu but it's rather futureproofing than anything, also it's decently cheap too, makes me wonder if it's a good psu to begin with so looking for opinions on that psu.
will there be that much difference between these 2 motherboards?
also i might end up buying a used mobo and gpu (from amazon) and idk if theres any real risk of buying those used

#2924 I would really try to get an ssd. You can get a 240GB for the same price as the hard drive, and reuse the hard drive in your current computer.
@Setsul
Howdy. :-)
I'm looking to get a new GPU. Perhaps you could take a look at my thread over at overclock.net? I would paste it here, but it would spam the thread.
The gist of the situation is that I have an old build from 2012 of which the GPU (GTX670) is damaged.

Future proofing for what? A 450W GPU? They don't make those. Well there are some very special editions but you can't afford those.
It's an entry level PSU. Not bad, but for your purposes not any better than a 450W PSU of similar quality.
This one is on sale right now. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FQ648d/corsair-power-supply-cp9020101na
Get faster RAM instead. E.g. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/2C7CmG/team-vulcan-8gb-2-x-4gb-ddr4-2800-memory-tlred48g2800hc16cdc01 also on sale atm.
No, not much of a difference.
Depends on who you buy from.
And what #2925 said.
#2926
It's not spam if you're already posting anyway.
Really all that's important is:
-250€ budget (Netherlands)
-at least as fast as a GTX 670
That means essentially something between GTX 1050 / RX 560 (about the same speed as the GTX 670) and a GTX 1060 3GB / RX 570 (if you can find one for 250€) which would be around 70% faster. Depends on the game though so it's really anything between 50 and 100%. Between that there's also the 1050 Ti.
That should be all your options in terms of new GPUs.

Any opinion on Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Windforce OC for €295?
The fact that it has 2x DVI is why it caught my eye. (Both monitors I have are DVI.)

That's quite a bit over your budget though.
Sadly tweakers can't filter by number of DVI ports, but if you just need a list this would work.

How about this? ("VGA Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 3GB WindForce OC" for €233.)
Sorry to keep asking -- I don't understand why this particular card is so much less expensive than some other 1060 3GB cards. I'd rather double-check, if you don't mind. (Unbelievable how many iterations of each card are made..)

You are gonna need a new motherboard, DDR4 RAM, and obviously a new CPU if you are looking for any worthwhile upgrades.
RAM prices are quite high, so you would be looking to get 8GB probably.

#2930
It was on sale, it's 255.05€ now.
#2931
It would be far cheaper to fix those issues.
bwelpi currently have a i5 4460, 16gb, 8gb ram
16 or 8GB RAM? I'm guessing 16GB RAM and 8GB VRAM?
Anyway what issues are you having?

Lol, waiting for your reply cost me a good deal. I hate hardware purchases.
Thanks for the help, I appreciate you taking the time.

For the future: I know nVidia likes to play stupid games with the SP count in identically named GPUs, but a 1060 3GB is a 1060 3GB. 10-20% cheaper than all other shops is usually a sale, 30-50% is usually a pricing error (e.g. 1070 priced like a 1060) and anything below that is either a huge pricing error that won't be honored or a scam so definitely not worth trying.
whenever i startup my pc it wont start but just light up my case, so i have to hard power off it. then i press the power button and it works.
im thinking about this setup

No, fix that first. If the GPU is the problem you'd just waste a lot of money.
What does "it wont start but just light up my case"? What lights up the case if the pc doesn't start? Do the fans spin? Are you just not getting a video signal?
"the i press the power button and it works" Does that mean you're starting it a second time or was the first try not with the power button?

the first time i turn it on it just turns on the tower but neither my monitor, or peripherals on startup. so i hold hte power button down to shut it off then press it again to actually turn on the whole thing
Ok.
Just to make sure:
You press the power button, lights turn on, fans spin, but monitor and peripherals don't turn on. Then you kill it via power button and press the power button again it starts normally.
How can you tell with the peripherals? RGB keyboard? Have you tried manually selecting the input on the monitor?
Was the pc properly shut down before or was it in standby/hibernation? Windows can do weird things.

i can tell by the peripherals, i always turn off my pc after using it. the monitor is always swt on display port display and on the second try it turns on everything anyways
But how can you tell with the peripherals? What peripherals are we talking about? How do you know they didn't turn on? That's what I'm asking.
So proper, full shutdown? Like I said, windows sometimes does weird things. You could also disable hibernation, but first could you test what happens if you shut down normally, then unplug the pc, wait a few seconds, plug it back in and try to start it? That would rule out standby.
I meant manually reselecting the correct monitor input. Just select something else and then DP again.

Hey, is this build ok? I'm not knowledgeable in PC hardware stuff or building computers but I would really like to know if I should replace anything with something cheaper, better, or both. I'm primarily looking to use it to play TF2 but would also use the computer for other, more visually-intensive, games.
