There are numerous factors that go into retaining a player base for a competitive game, however one of the most important and relatively simple to control is the quality of the league. I’d argue the main factor involved is the quality of the admin team, and thank God RGL is second to none in that regard.
RGL admins clearly know when to exercise discretion with procedure to help this community: like giving a 3 month ban to a bottom scoring roamer because PREC broke and he couldn’t submit a demo. Discretion has no place in this community, or hell, any community. I’m sure the RGL admin involved in this had the sole goal of doing what’s good for the community.
The best way to run a league and grow a community is to pursue the strictest reading of procedure possible while not applying discretion even when it leads to players leaving the scene. I’m confident in the end people will hear about how our procedures are so strict no bad people are tolerated here, and we will all flourish.
Thank you for prioritizing banning potential cheaters while spending months to ban well known cheaters. But most of all, thank you for banning Antlers. He was one of the only people to run production for casting amateur/other lower divisions in the regular season, and we certainly don’t need any of that in our TF2 league to help retain players. Hell no. Your intelligent admin decisions will more than make up for that. I am certain this decision is good for the TF2 community and will help it grow.
Antlers should have known better than to cast Amateur games. Going through hours of effort messing with your config to shine a light on some of our newer players, just to have his hard work break PREC. Well, another cheater bites the dust. Three cheers for RGL.
Sincerely,
A Concerned TF2 citizen

i’m very sad that antlers’ casting config prior to this season ruined his p-rec that he presumed would work for our matches. turns out it didnt but what can you do about it. Ik that there might be an argument to manually record via the built in config. but, when it becomes routine it can be hard to remember especially when you’re engrossed in getting ready for the match as both teams ready up (personally i have forgotten to record in past seasons because im caught up w thinking about how to start off the first mid)
we’re pretty bummed; we had planned to play this season with our starting roster w/o any changes barring extreme circumstances, but we’ll just have to do what we can make of it. personally i accept the admin punishment but cant help but feel that while antlers should have been more on top of recording demos (and known that it was likely he would be targeted again to start the seaaon off, though im not sure how ethical it is to not notify the player beforehand), none of our teammates had been requested of demos for our matches even though some of us consistently perform way better than antlers (LOL)
both sides of the coin are arguable and bring valid points, but putting myself in antlers’ shoes makes me feel for the guy personally. I’d feel bitter and believe that the time and effort he put into production for past seasons only ended up biting him in the back rather than doing him any good. a few other producers have been silently pushed out of production since league changes but never did i think it would happen in this form

Thank god we only have one place to compete in this game, so we can successfully shut people out of the community
You can be sure that I will be contacting Thomas's boss (United States Commander in Chief Joseph Biden) to let him know that someone so evil is trusted with our beloved country's protection.

You know for a league that does a ton of questionable shit on a case-by-case discretion basis, this sure seems like a bizarre time to go strictly by the books.

definitely need admins to use reason with the requesting demos thing. if someone is a suspected cheater or something then sure, but I have a warning for the rest of eternity cause i got requested and didn't have the demo due to reinstalling windows even tho my team got 4-0'd by sandblast

bottom scoring roamer
who exactly do you expect to be bottom-scoring

Probably not the person getting asked for an entire week of demos season after season.

RGL is what happenes when you want to make a lgbtq safespace run by weirdos (and biggest fucking losers this planet has to offer who will ban you just so they can feel that sense of power, authority and control) instead of a functioning league

Why do i keep seeing people hating on rgl when the simple solution is to find a different league that would actually care? But there isnt one, i tried, but people took it as a joke.

I'd like to understand more because maybe I am just ignorant or have the wrong perspective when it comes to detecting cheating.
1-- The league is requesting a demo from antlers to review one of his matches from either 9/28 or 9/30
2-- He forgot to record a demo and/or his prec broke
3-- Got suspended because 3rd offense
Both demos are available for download from demos.tf. I downloaded both and was able to watch his POV.
If both demos are available at any time for any admin/player to download, then where is the problem?
Why couldn't Antlers just submit the STV demos?
Is it more difficult to detect cheating unless you are watching the actual demo from the player as opposed to STV?
Educate me if I am wrong

come on spacecadet youve been around long enough to know that pov and stv demos are different lmao.
fr the demo request thing is so dumb rn expecially when theyre requesting so many that you can literally send the wrong one renamed and no one will know (not that i, or anyone I know, has ever, or will ever do this). i like how they only tell you what week the match is so you have to go look up which log it is then find the demo all for something that ddoesnt matter

Yes of course they are different. I know next to nothing about cheating or the things used to find them. That's why I was just asking about how cheaters are detected and if the same methods couldn't be used on the STV as compared to the actual demo.

genuinely impressive you found a way to attack rgl that is stupider than their admin decisions

SpaceCadetif the same methods couldn't be used on the STV as compared to the actual demo.
Very old example of why this difference can matter for catching cheaters.
