Bots in casual are obviously the biggest hindrance to a new player, but another huge barrier of entry is how fucking bad the default settings are. Like if I had any fps experience at all and felt the 100 default lerp 70 default fov lack of default quickswitch and cringe fps for a game relative to its time I'd be hard pressed to stick it through I feel. The tutorial is also ass (granted it's not great in overwatch too iirc, been a while).
As someone who has recently gotten their never played before friend to play the game it is a literal nightmare

i feel like if you have someone holding ur hand when you first start the game its infinitely better and certainly not a nightmare when inducting new commands and settings into your gameplay compared to someone who just installed for the first time

the devs are never giving tf2 to the community after what happened to lange
ElenaManettab0nes_NAwhats the worst that can happen? It fails and it causes people who were fans of TF2 and still stuck around to keep playing despite the bots decide to drop the game entirely because they start to believe it's a dying game. And then the whole "TF2 is dying" mantra gets louder.
.
If you´re a pubber the game is pretty much dead right now. Half the maps are unplayable because bots stack and ruin the servers. So I can´t see people staying too long when the game is almost unplayable.

Them doing something now is like finally saving a drowning kid from a pool after watching him for 10 minutes. He's been submerged for ages and his brain has been starved of oxygen. Yeah he's technically living but he's going to be a vegetable for the rest of his life.

But they have the technology.
They can make him faster, stronger, more susceptible to micro transactions.

valve saw some of the threads on here and they told me they had to cease production of all new tf2 players until they figured out what the hell is going on.
Either we’re getting summer crates or we’re having an actual update dedicated to largely reducing the bots/making it impossible to run them.
i did see the hashtag trending at #1 the other day which is kinda neat at least

:') <- me rn thinking of are holesome community. thanks so much for making this possible.
likely something is going to happen, but I'm sure everyone has serious doubts because this exact thing has happened before when Gabe Newell was at a press conference last year.

So as optimistic as I am that something might come-up, I'm also thinking about how they will end up doing absolutely nothing AGAIN.
So I suggest that if valve has not communicated or displayed what their intention or plan is within a week. We organize a full TF2 community boycott from any valve product (including the purchase of any product on steam).
Hopefully it won't escalate to this but we should continue to pressure, because it does have the attention of the public.

It really is nice to see how TF2 has affected so many. I always just thought about how this game had an impact on me and other people within our competitive bubble, but seeing how it affects even high profile people is incredible. This game really is something man let’s hope we get something that we’ve deserved for a long time.
Getawhaleit's cute

We spoke to Valve directly for 3 years about this topic. It took us a long time to recognize nothing was possible, and to finally move on. Seeing history repeat itself is endearing - at least people care. But to say we've been down this road is an understatement, to say the least.
