I've seen other forums with a live chatbox where people can chat in real time. I think it'll help a lot when people need simple things that don't deserve their own thread. People can ask for ringers/scrims, help with configs, new people who don't know what's going on can ask anything, newbie mix newbies can ask for coaches instead of making a thread every week, asking for a few more guys for an inhouse pug, etc etc. Or people can just chill and talk. Lemme know what you guys think.
A Steam group chat would be easier. I don't know if Enigma would be willing to make one for the site.

It would definitely be easier to make but probably have a lot less traffic.

though I'd prefer something other than Steam group chat. Last time I used it, it blinked in the taskbar after every message, I only want that when people say your username like IRC clients

On the one hand it would be cool. On the other hand it might devolve into mustardoverlord and june arguing non-stop in real time. But it would probably be a good idea mostly.
Sounds like a good idea. I think people around here are mature enough to not go on rampage arguing 24/7

There's a setting to turn it off, although it won't blink upon a mentioning of your name.
shlanerwhat about /j #tftv
Forgot about this. Just put this in a mini IRC client and put it somewhere on the homepage, or below the forum index.

if we could find someone to make an IRC client that integrates with TFTV and is only compatible with one IRC room, something that looks like this would be great.

Sounds like a neat idea. But my worries would be the same as any, if the chatbox will actually be used for its intended purposes (Questions, hardware help, etc...) Or will it just be used for immature rants, spams of advertisement, etc..
If it's plausible, there could be a separate chat for each forum thread, and a single, unified IRC, where you could join each threads' channel via /j #tv<threadname>. Would be cool, not sure if it's worth the network/storage resources though.
A chat for each forum thread is a little much, that just defeats the purpose of threads. And the chatbox.

I think this would be cool, and have it use your username for the irc. I guess this way you could access the chat outside of tf.tv

Yeah I've thought about that, but we could just have an admin or two on there to make sure no one does stupid shit. Don't think anyone will abuse it though. Just need to know what enigma thinks and how possible this is to actually implement.

that channel actually exists on quakenet, come join it

kirbyWe had this on NATF2, it was terrible
because it was set up in a terrible way.

nobody really uses the #TFTV channel...
don't most people just hop into a stream and chat there?

IRC is just really convenient for me, but it might be nice to have a webirc addition also

True, but enigma's #tftv channel is on Gamesurge.

There could always just be a few moderators moderating the chat so there is no advertising/arguing.
I support this.

Who wants to sit around and moderate a chatbox all day? I'm not sure this is the best use of our limited resources.
I have alot of time on my hands. Many others may have time too. I think a chatbox(not like NATF2's) would be good as it'll show not only are we active, but also it can help other newbies that enter the forums ask where to go, and they can be directed.

LangeI personally have never felt the urge to use a chatbox on a website. I have yet to see one that did not devolve into drivel and spam.
Until now!
MR_SLINdon't most people just hop into a stream and chat there?
I mean yeah, it's the same idea as that in some ways, but this is always up when popular streamers aren't.

You underestimate the desire that exists for people to want to be moderators. I don't think having chat moderators is an issue at all. Besides I don't think they'll be needed too much. You really think people will act like retards on it all day?

Having a chatbox on just the homepage and a separate tab would be a good addition to the website.
I didn't realise there was an official #tftv channel, I thought there was only #teamfortresstv on Twitch.
Make this channel more noticeable, no need for a chatbox.

Putting it here would make it more noticeable and used for sure. Also if we're trying to make this site a central hub for everything TF2, it would be much more convenient to have access to it here rather than having to have a separate IRC client open.
PEOPLE, don't waste your energy on a forum chatbox! you can't get +frags from that.
Personally I think if there was a place to put the silly crap the forums might be a bit cleaner overall.
yeah that's not a bad idea...have the site chatbox be just the twitch.tv/teamfortresstv chat?
