I was just watching the PAX East stream on Twitch when I saw an advertisement for something called International Gaming League. I didn't pay much attention until I noticed that they included a clip of TF2 at the very end. I went to their website and TF2 is listed under one of their supported games, along with Lol, Dota, CS: GO, etc. It looks like it's going to be a ladder system or something like that.
Does anyone know anything else about this? Has IGL contacted anyone in the TF2 community? Would anyone even want to use their system?
Their website is http://www.playigl.com/

This could be a great way to find closely matched games, assuming the ladder system works properly.

I was actually part of the beta and to be honest, I think this has a lot of potential as the developers are very open to community suggestions.

The way the leagues will work will probably be NA teams matched only with NA teams and EU only with EU.

You can only schedule 4 hours in advance. The blocks of hours keep changing. I'm guessing they do that to limit flake-outs and stuff.

SBARROHOTTOPICwait, I'm really confused about how this whole thing is set up. Is it on one day?
I think the way it works is everyone starts out with 100 points, and since its a ladder you gain/lose a percentage of your points depending on the amount of points the enemy team has and by how much you beat them, so if you have 100, and they have 200, you would be 110 and they would be 190 after that. So you have to play a match every 5 days in order to keep from losing 5 points per time you miss, and you just go on 4 hours before you want to play your match and choose a time your team can play.

Hey All,
Absolute here, Co-Founder and CTO @ IGL.
Thanks for the support - we're definitely looking to make an impact in the TF2 community. One of our programmers is also the mastermind behind stats.tf & backpack.tf, so we have some reach within the community; hopefully this reflects in the number of teams, players and matches over time.
In regards to ladder times, matches occur every hour on the hour. Teams register for a time, vote for the available maps. Just prior to the top of the hour, teams are scheduled against one another on the winning map.
This system helps prevent (as stated before) teams from "flaking out."
Additionally, teams can still make challenges for their desired times & maps.
In regards to ping, we're starting simple; supporting an array of NA servers. In the very near future we'll be adding location identification for teams to better select opponents and match servers.
Huff was actually quite accurate in describing how the ladder rankings work. For full details, read the description on the ladder page. If anything is unclear, please fire me a tweet @IGLAbsolute, or add me to Skype and I'll be happy to answer any questions.
Hope this helps!

Thank you all for the initial support and we hope that over the next few months, as we dive into our supported communities and continue to take the lead from the players, that we can offer the TF2 community another option for their competitive AND their amateur scene.
My name is John Clark (Director of Marketing for IGL)and I have been involved in eSports for over 14 years. I have worked for OGL, GGL, ESWC, ESL, CSN, and most recently IGL. I am a strong supporter of structure and a 'bottom-up' approach. More importantly, because of my past experiences, I am a supporter of league/tournament website modules that work and are easy to use. My past experiences have allowed me to see both the good and the very bad of both structure and modules and at IGL we hope to take the best and use it, improve on what 'should have worked', support all levels of skill and avoid what never worked.
Anyway.. enough of that. We have plans to fully support TF2.. but I must be honest in letting you know that we will be looking to the community for some help. It only makes sense to take queues from the community on what's important to them, the rules and settings and for general help in supporting our efforts.
This thread is a great example of a community that is not only looking for additional competitive options but of a community that is willing to support an organization that is open to supporting them.
We encourage you all to look through the site.. give us feed back and keep posting here with questions, suggestions and concerns you may have. Soon, IGL will release an info graphic that clearly outlines our competition structure which will allow you to see more clearly the vision, the functions, features and improvements of this system.

This is interesting, I've always thought a ladder system of some sort would be cool.

Matches only use your own servers and only in NA?
Matches only use your own servers and only in NA?
To answer a few more of the questions.
First, if the numbers show an interest in EU Ladders, because the ladders are self sustaining, this is something we can offer the EU Community. Regarding that, initially, as we gauge the interest levels, tweak the ladder settings and fix the bugs, we will be concentrating on the NA scene. Obviously, time zones and resources have a lot to do with this, but we are the 'International' Gaming League.. and there has always been plans to support the EU community as well.
If we were to set up an initial EU ladder based on interest, this ladder would be separate from the NA ladder and would be comprised of EU Teams only who would play matches against only EU teams.

I'm looking forward to this! Keep us updated!
I see everyone's looking for some updates....
We've got some big updates & polish coming to the site next week, including ~30 servers going up over the next few days, so we've got lots of room for matches!
We've kicked off our advertising campaign, you may have seen some of our TF2 ads on a few community sites :)
Registrations are now open: teams & players can register on the TF2 highlander ladder in preparation for launch.
Note:
Next Friday a site patch is coming out which fixes avatar issues for players & teams (mainly affecting Chrome), as well as a bunch of other bugs & feature enhancements. We're also adding some more features around managing your teams.
