I don't know but tf2 has been acting real funky for me and some people. I've been getting fps drops (50- during fights) and stuttering issues. I know there has been fps drops but getting to 30 fps is huge red flag. Has anyone else been getting issues?
same, this has been happening to me a lot. it's annoying especially considering i'm on 144hz
edit - here are my specs:
i5-3570k OC'd to 4.2GHz
GTX 650 Ti
8GB RAM
Windows 7 (x64)

I've had stuttering for a while but it got really bad after this update.
DX9 stutters really badly for me now, every few seconds my framerate will drop and it makes my mouse feel really laggy.
Awhile back, I thought my FPS drops were because valve is bad and tf2 is bad and fuck this game it gets worse with every update arrrrrgggg.
It turns out, I cleaned my computer and everything was fine again.
Not to discount that the game could very well have bugs and be unoptimized, but it's something to try for those of you having problems.

I'm not sure if this will help you specifically but it worked for me...
Open steam, library, right click tf2, properties, local game content, validate game catch files.
Hope this helps

dumb question, but how come there isn't a defrag button anymore?

I'm pretty sure that went away during steampipe. They probably just haven't reimplemented it.

I did this too but the game is still choppy.

Yes, I've got the same problem. Stutters and I can't get >40 fps on some maps.
yea, i cant get over 30 fps on a 24 player badwater server and i get insane mouse lag whenever there is commotion on my screen
Well, it could be. My fps have dropped recently. But the main problem for me is, just teleporting around
my fps drops from 250-300 to 80 every 5 minutes or so and lasts for like 2 minutes. it's been doing this for months. i think it's just my psu getting too hot. i figured putting a fan on my computer would help keep it from getting too hot but i guess not :s
omg yes, i've had this problem too. i usually get 200-300 frames, but i drop to below 40 regularly. i find it thoroughly frustrating
Same problem here, normally running with 150 fps yet it's dropping hard. It's really annoying when you get übered.

Roughly the same issue, thought I have no cooling or temperature issues.

I reinstalled because the last update made my game really buggy, and that's helped me gain back 30+ frames (50-60 on midfights to 80-90).
I used to have 60-70 fps on midfights, now I have 40-50. Also, it's a lot more common now to find laggy and stuttering people around.
I usually have ~20 fps normally (shit laptop...) but now I can rarely get above 7-8 fps... :(

i feel like it is for me because i get this same issue in BO2. the only thing keeping me from being convinced is that i only get this problem in those games.

mat_phong fixed my stuttering problems
I wasn't really having fps problems
I wasn't really having fps problems
I noticed a big drop in fps after the most recent update. Added mat_phong 0 to my config, thinking maybe that helps? At midfights is when it is worst. Not a huge issue if I drop from 300 to 170 but it is noticeable. It is a bit ridiculous that a nice computer can't consistently get 240+ anymore though, even with a graphics config.
Is it just me or does anyone else have a flood of errors constantly blowing up your console? When I start to notice weird fps lag and stuttering, sure enough my console is off the charts with errors. I have an alias that records and stops a demo, executes snd_restart and hud_reloadscheme. This fixes it, but only temporarily. I know that having a few errors at startup and here and there is normal, but this is really bad. I might post a screenshot later.
TF2 wont stop freezing for 2 seconds every 40 seconds and its getting annoying. What does exactly mat_phong do?
It's hard to do the effect of mat_phong 0 justice by just looking at screenshot comparisons, IMHO. But check out this post.
It makes player models look really cool. Phong is a type of shading/lighting. With phong set to 0 [off] player models do not have that artificial white light.

I had a similar problem earlier this year, caused by some update. Last year I had a constant 132 framerate, but from January onwards my FPS kept dropping and dropping and at the worst point it was pretty much always 30-40 during fights. It was fucking horrible. But everything was fixed when I disabled multicore rendering, in fact I can now have 300 FPS constantly.
