standard etf2l admin decision

I'm one of the lower level players i am talking about in my post. I take placements and whatnot in ugc during the season very seriously and i enjoy conversing with multiple teams/players however its just a fact we can't stand up to 95% of esea players(and the money to dedication ratio has something to do with that)

This always happens during ETF2L finals. Throughout the season players play every week and then when it gets to the final, people disappear for a couple of weeks. You can't really blame the league too much on this one (players being unavailable shouldn't be their problem... they have a league to run), but I guess it could be handled differently.

As for a comment mentioned about holding onto prize money, I actually think that is a VERY fair thing to do. Sponsors expect a level of coverage for their cash / hardware, just as they do with any sport. It's not a donation just for the sake of it (most of the time anyway). If I sponsored a tournament and the grand final was effectively boycotted by one of the teams, I sure as hell wouldn't pay up as if anything, a large portion of the brand exposure would come from the Grand final. At least holding prize money shows to the sponsors that the league is serious about promoting the sponsor and we might actually be able to retain that sponsorship going into the next season.

ETF2L is specific to TF2 which means it was founded by and is run by people who currently play, or have played, Team Fortress 2. With this in mind I don't understand why they can't just bend the rules a bit and let the teams find an actual date to play(even if that date might be after the new year).

TF2 players created this league so TF2 players could play TF2, so please let them do so.

Maybe the solution to this kind of problems is actually making the seasons start a little bit sooner and not ending in this kind of dates?

If the final is gonna be a 5v6 with an afk in spawn, you might as well not play with those numbers and make it a 4v4 final.

There are a couple of questions I have here, and they are mainly about the league admin side of things, but not a dig at them.

Why is there even a fucking 'playoff' at the top of the top league? The Premiership doesn't have a play off to decide first place, it is decided in the league. Playoffs are for promotion from championship to premiership (first place is default rise, then 2nd,3rd,4th fight over promotion).

Why, if you are having playoffs, are they scheduled so far from the end of season? Surely all the playoffs at the top, 2nd vs. 3rd and winner of that vs. 1st, can all happen the week after the main season ends? You still have everyones attention, teams are still together and practicing, we're not half way through the next HL season.

Perez Hilton is a drama loving tit that really should keep his mind on his own backyard rather than stirring shit elsewhere because he so loves the attention.

Here's how I see the situation.

The Grand Final is a foregone conclusion anyway, Epsilon are going to rape. The only reason to play it is for the spectators and for increased viewership for sponsorship awareness etc. and for the fact that it is the pinnacle of the season. Forfeiting the largest game of the season and thinking everyone should be ok with that is really dumb. Arx summarised this really well and I think forfeiting the game would actually be the most retarded decision.

However the timing of everything (through nobody's fault) has meant that the game cannot be played until some time in the new year if both teams want to use their proper rosters. By that time, the next season will have been announced, the highlander playoffs will be in full swing, there will be pre-season games for the next season and the teams won't have played for a long while. Epsilon weren't even planning on staying together after new year, so who knows when that game would get played finally. Delaying it isn't as simple as that.

If you want them to play before then, and not forfeit the biggest game of the season, then teams are gonna get fucked up. The TEAMS should have sorted this out and compromised, playing on a day when they each have 1 player missing (that would allow them to play any day they liked) because 1 merc is not going to make a fucking bit of difference in this game anyway.

Since they haven't done that, the admins considering some kind of penalty for boycotting the largest game of the season seems perfectly reasonable to me. Obviously it was meant as motivation not to forfeit rather than punishment.

Yes this is a ballache for the teams but it makes a difference from everything being on the admins all the time. They sort out everything else because nobody can be bothered to schedule, and the workload that the higher-up admins do is vital to keeping this game alive. Nobody else is willing to do the job for free. ETF2L is a great league almost all of the time and the bashing in this thread is dumb.

Why can't ETF2L delay the finals by a month? I remember them delaying the nations cup finals between USA and France by a month, what's the problem with them doing it here? People have lives y'know

neither teams are sticking around afaik. for epsilon at least, some of us are done with TF2 once ESEA+ETF2L are finished.

about the forfeiting thing according to etf2l rules we wouldnt have been allowed to ready up if we dont have atleast 3 players from mainroster + 2 mercs
and it wasnt sure if we actually can field enough players

eg only 2 players from roster -> not allowed to play

and thats the point when we would have to forfeit the game
