insomHonestly the only problem I see with this is not being able to surf a rocket if a soldier jumps you and you go for a shot.

Exactly what I was thinking. Good snipers will kill you even if you jump, that doesn't really make much of a difference. But this'll probably make it much more challenging to survive as sniper in 6s if you can't surf damage as efficiently.

I'm not necessarily against the change, I've not had a chance to try it out, but this is certainly feels like a weird and somewhat random nerf. Like, it'd make sense if it was when TF2 was new, because it was presumably a unplanned mechanic, but now it seems really odd. I mean, it's not like Sniper is a particularly strong class. I'm just interested as to what the thinking was behind it was, I'm sure they have a decent sounding reason for it.

Atleast let us quickswitch then. Standing basically still after a shot for no fucking reason is just idiotic. Imagine it in any other FPS. In quake, you could only walk for 2 sec after a railgun shot. Or in CS, you couldn't run after shooting someone with an AWP.

I'm not too upset about this. The jump spam was very hokey and boring. It did however alleviate the "you shoot. "no, you shoot..." "no, you shoot!" "I'm gonna shoot...jk, you shoot!!" scope wars that became the main counter-snipe technique after quick switching was removed. All this does is reinstitute that, not the best thing, but whatever. I always found the jump strat to be annoying, it basically just encouraged snipers to keep unleashing shots until one of them happened to be aimed correctly. There will be a bit more conciousness to when snipers take shots now, and that at least is good...but it is a straight nerf versus other classes when jumping after a shot could help you surf a rocket or ride a scatter hit.

A smart companion update to go along with this would have been rolling back the 200ms penalty before being able to headshot a target. That would have further emphasized snipers aim their shot before firing. As it is, you can line up a perfect shot, zoom and shoot at exactly the same time and not be awarded a headshot because of the 200ms wait time. That is bad, espescially when you keep removing the ways a sniper can dodge after taking his shot.

What would have been best was actually buffing the classic to a point to where it was useable. VALVE, come talk to me. We can make snipers balanced and useful in TF2 with just a few tweaks to The Classic...

when i play competitively against another sniper my go-to strat to win counter sniping fights is to get 150+ hp and just hardscope them

i feel like thats pretty much how it is with any class isnt it? do what you can to get an advantage that doesnt force you to rely on out DMing

i feel like this only really affects people who play in sniper servers for more than warming up, or competitively, people who want to big dick every sniper fight solo

not being able to surf away after trying to save yourself from a bombing solly is probably the worst thing about this
