I would say Shwan has done far more for organizing the Newbie Mixes than I have and totally deserves one. I basically just copied what he did, and he was a great role model throughout the whole process.

According to Hein, Eric S. always says he'll forward messages to the right people. So I want to make very clear that I have no relationship with him, and since I don't know what their selection process is, this thread really doesn't mean a lot.

If you're looking for people who actually have Valve's ear, I'm not your guy. Sorry! I can still send them emails just like you can, but they won't mean any more than the other thousands of emails they get per day.

I have no idea how they figured out the order of the reasons to give someone a community weapon but have those 3 as his secondary seems pretty damn silly.

Yeah, I was just trying to point out how weird the process seems to be. They clearly differentiate primary and secondary reasons for giving out the award, and it seems to be arbitrary.

Also, I wonder if they include people that are admins or founders of large tf2 communities.

While I wouldn't expect any kind of recognition for regular workshop contributions (for those I get self-mades and money!). I do a lot of work to make items for community events:

UGC season 8 medals
UGC season 6 medals
UGC season 5 medals
Ready Steady Pan Medals
6v9 medal (not yet released)
ETF2L medals (not yet released)
ESL medals

This is literally weeks of solid work just to make events better.

When I don't get an item "Given to valuable community contributors" I do feel a little sad :(

I don't think view count should be a reason for community items, there are many editors who work a lot harder than those two to bring content/movies to the tf2 scene, even if they aren't as good (no offense to decap or subtitled, I love their movies, just don't think editing talent/skill justifies rewards for community activity.)

So quantity is more important than quality? I appreciate the effort put into any video made. However, there's no denying that decap/subtitled have had a huge impact on the community with their videos. That impact doesn't just include bringing people into the community, but it also includes inspiring other people to start editing and providing content to the community. I'm sure there are plenty of editors deserving, my post was to shed light on two people I can vouch for, not speak for every editor that should be acknowledged for their work.
